Thoughts on the new show 'Big Sexy'?

Just watched it for the first time yesterday, I kind of enjoyed it. I'm imagining that if I were at my starting weight I would probably look to a show like this for comfort to make me feel better about myself.. But.. watching it now almost 40 pounds lighter, i find a different comfort in it. I enjoy that I dont have to worry about being over weight and being "happy" about it.
When I was 225 pounds i hated watching any type of weight loss show like 'X weighted or Biggest Loser', it made me feel like crap, i would always change the channel but now I love those shows, because seeing peoples transformations is sooooo inspiring and almost addicting!

Haven't seen it but I agree with your sentiment. I've become almost addicted to these shows. I find them incredibly inspiring and they make me tear up  :blushing:0

I haven't seen it but would like to see other peoples' transformations too... What network is it on? I like supersize vs superskinny on OWN.0

I haven't watched the show but have seen the trailer. I totally get your comment on "I were at my starting weight I would probably look to a show like this for comfort to make me feel better about myself" :-)
It seems to be the show that will inspire people to feel better about themselves because I believe that a lot of weight loss comes off of loving and caring about your own body. For me somehow, being comfortable with my weight and look doesn't work.. I take it for granted then!0 -
I dont like Big Sexy, I really dont think these women are "happy" at their weight. I dont really like their attitudes. The girl who found out she had a thyroid problem, was so happy to find a reason for her lack of weight loss. I've only watched it a time or two, but not impressed.
I DO like biggest loser, and any other get healthy reality show. It encourages me, and keeps me motivated!0 -
I thought that it will do the same thing for other people that are obese and morbidly obese...they'll find comfort in it. Now, I don't think that everyone should be "skinny" or even fit for that matter. I do believe everyone should try to be healthy, and they aren't. They also criticized girls that are smaller becuase they didn't look healthy but can't see unhealthy they are. If somebody is comftorable in their skin, that's great. I just don't think the idea that being that overweight should be showed to children so they can then think that they can also be overweight and happy.
Basically, the show really irritated me at some points lol0 -

Oooh this bothered me so much too! She basically said that she had been going to the gym 5 days a week and eating well, and when she stopped she gained weight, and didn't understand why. Then when she was diagnosed, was so relived, and acted like her struggle to lose weight was only about that now. Like she had an excuse not to go back to the gym and work hard at it.
But, I did kind of enjoy the show, if only because I think it featured some real discussions about body image. I don't really support people who say they should be heavier, or feel better that way, but I really do commend them for feeling so comfortable with themselves.0 -
its like a train wreck...you can't stop watching but its horrible!!
I can't stand how whiny these girls are, I am all for people being happy with themselves but if you say your confident and love yourself....then be confident and love yourself. Big doesn't mean unhealthy all the time.
I would love to see some of these girls start doing some counselling and truly love themselves. Speaking from my experiences, its only then when you truly love yourself and are happy with who you are and all you are, that you can be honest about what you really need and can engage in a truly healthy lifestyle.
Just because your skinny and pretty does not mean your healthy.....and just because your big doesn't mean your unhealthy.
anyway I said I would give it a few episodes to see if they watch an episode or two and realize how whiny they sound and make some fixes.0 -
I love it! I'm addicted to almost all things TLC (I'm watching Jon and Kate Plus 8 as I type) and I find it nice to see women who aren't perfect doing what they want on TV. It seems like it is a show that says it's okay to be bigger. Because big doesn't always mean really unhealthy.
That's just my opinion and I'm probably going to get *kitten* for it haha0 -
My personal opinion is unless you have real acting talent and can play an engaging character you should not be on television.
Just because your pretty, fat, stupid, <insert your own reality "star" quality here> does not make your worth being on television.0
