Vibration training

Do not let the word "vibration" get in the way of what is really going on. If any vibration did it for you, all truck drivers would be skinny...

Calories burned ? Anyone saying they know are just guessing. The fact is it is anaerobic so no way of scientifically testing it. Any figure bandied around , be it high or low, is still just a guess.
.Perceived Exertion is still the gold standard for any workout. So you are best to try it for yourself and matching it up to something anaerobic you have done before ( like weights ) then make a judgement.
If you don't feel anything, it did nothing. If you are buggered afterward. It was a workout.

It is only smart to be skeptical. Especially when you see adverts on TV with people just wobbling side to side. That is not Vibration Training. It is Therapy for people with mobility issues. That stuff is aimed directly at lazy people who want to believe no pain = some gain.
A lot of "top" academics and fitness pros have had to do a backflip on their previous public opinions on this subject. And every one of them had one thing in common. No actual experience. Be careful of people protecting their own lack of comprehension of an idea. They are as bad, if not worse than the dodgy marketers.
Vibration Training is like any form of exercise. You have to experience it yourself before any info you may have read or been told makes sense.
Oh yea. And some people hate it even when they do try it.0 -

I've seen this vibro plate thing at my gym, and I was exceedingly curious how it works. I still haven't tried it out though. I had a google around, and yeah, I'm sceptical. It totally reminds me of those old fashioned things with the big band around your butt, so whoever else said that I totally get what you're saying there.0

Erm, actually, vibration training is the only exercise that doesn't immediately make sense to me.
Do you just do isometric holds on it, interspersed with the now stuck on, one size fits all, band exercises?0 -

It is as simple as exercise gets..
The squats feel as though you are jumping off a chair and landing perfectly over and over again.
The push-ups feel as though you are catching a medicine ball over and over again.
Eccentric contractions and proprioception used to fatigue. You have the "catch phase" and the "rest phase". It is just happening very quickly.
Imagine if you were on a balance board and someone was kicking it quite hard. Same thing just very controlled.0 -
I found this website from the Mayo Clinic. Hope it helps.

A fine, vague answer if there ever was one.0 -
Vague for a reason.
(1) Article 5 years old. That was back when no-one but a few people even understood the concept.
(2) Companies like Power Plate releasing fake machines into market in 2004. And some even finding their way into studies. They got slammed for that.
pubmed.org best place for more recent studies. Some still on weak plastic machinery but some on better quality units.0 -

Quite possibly. Whenever a tv or radio show has something offensive on it, the number of complaints is often 4 times the original audience. People with no lives will hunt down stuff just so that they can be offended and file a complaint.0
