I agree with everything! And I don't think you sound harsh at all- these are definitely things which can help people change their attitudes!

Michelle Bridges (Biggest Loser AUS) said that motivation is over-rated, everyone is unmotivated at times, what makes the difference is doing it anyway.

Making a healthy life is a decision to make it a priority. I get annoyed when people ask for help and then reject every suggestion because it doesn't fit with their current circumstances. Well hello, that attitude got you fat in the first place!

    1. Healthy weight-loss is not a quick process, but rather, a lifestyle-change. It takes dedication and effort. Quick-fixes like the ever-so-popular HCG won't cut it!.

I have been in and out of “diet” mode for 40 years. Finally, about 7 months ago, I started on a lifestyle change. First, it was learning to cook healthy, then shopping at farmers markets, then cutting out bread and pasta, then cutting out most processed foods, then exercise. I have been losing weight steadily, averaging 7 pounds for the last three months since I joined MFP so I can track everything. I feel better than I have in decades. I am getting healthier, and have been taken off 3 blood pressure meds, one cholesterol med and one diabetes med. My goal is to be med free by August 2012. The best thing is that I haven’t gotten sick of this after a few months, and have no desire to go back to dieting. I haven’t held a pity party in a long time.

I'm glad you succeeded in changing your lifestyle to a healthier one!
  • i especially agree with #1. when i first started my new health & fitness regime, i was determined NOT to allow my weight to bother me. after about a month, i hadn't lost much and was frustrated. but then i looked at my choices and realized that 5/6 days a week at the gym + all the healthy eating i was doing was worth far more than a low number on the scale. i feel incredible and after NEVER having gone to the gym in my life, i now LOVE IT! i also feel GREAT when i make healthy choices for meals for myself and my family instead of going to fast-food or sugary sweet alternatives. i lived my life for 40 years in such an unhealthy way so i can't expect to undo all that damage overnight. baby steps!!! thanks for the encouragement.
    Good for you!
