Work Lunches Are HARD!!!!

I find it so frustrating when there are work meetings and supervisors order lunch for the group. While it is nice to have free lunch, I don't want to seem like the snob who doesn't indulge in the pizza and cheese bread, especially when it is so graciously paid for by someone else. But the truth is, I find myself getting so off track because of it. I went over by 400 calories today even after i worked out because I went overboard on lunch. :(

I know I can't blame my environment on MY poor habits. But it just frustrates me a little bit when I feel like I can't indulge without feeling guilty. Then again, my indulgences are part of the problem.

Oh well, no one said this would be easy.

I hear ya girl. I am basically forced to eat lunch with the kids at my practicum/internship because I don't get a lunch break unless I am eating with them. I just have to try to limit my intake or choose better options from the choices I have. You just have to make up for it during other meals or bust your *kitten* working out.

I may have a different perspective since I come from a long life of weight loss challenges, but I'm never offended when people don't eat what I offer and/or pay for. Quite the contrary, I find them empowering for taking control of their lives. Now, in a perfect world, the one in charge of getting lunches would be sensitive to a variety of diets. But until that happens, pack your lunch.

Why would you feel like a snob for not eating like crap? Maybe you should set an example and ask them to order something BETTER next time --- and bring your own lunch. Make them all feel like crap for eating the crap. That's a lot of crap :)

I take my iPhone and use the app to calculate calories there on the spot - and practice portion control when I indulge in high calorie foods. Then I don't feel deprived, I'm still in control, and I stay on track. It's rough, but we've got to figure out how to live in this world!

No problem..when they are having pizza, get you a slice and bring a salad....always bring something to add so that you won't have to get full off of what they have to offer!

    That situation is definitely tough.

If you can't suggest a healthier alternative for these work meetings, then control the binge by having something to eat before the meeting so you're not starving by the time the naughty food comes out. Then it'll be easier to stick to one slice/piece, etc.

I have been experiencing the same thing. Last week my boss purchased pizza for our unit . What I did was take a slice to my office , just to be polite. I'm living a low carb lifestyle so I just ate the cheese and pepperoni off and tossed the rest it in the trash.

Im not letting anyone stop me from reaching my goals.

No one in my unit knows I have started living low carb and for now I plan to keep it that way. I work with to many haters and just don't want to hear the negative comments.

Its been almost 7 weeks since I started .

Maybe you can bring your lunch and just decline whats offered.

If you dont want to eat junk, dont! I catch hell on a regular basis because while everyone else is bringing pop and chips, I am bringing fruit and dip. Dont let them get you down... Do I care? Nope, not a bit because I am getting healthy and they are still complaining about how sick and tired they are.

I used to work in an office with lots of people and we'd almost be having a birthday cake every week.

Then i started an in-office biggest loser program and i think that one of the major factors that helped me win the competition was no never eat a slice of birthday cake for the 10 weeks that the competition ran for.

if i had a craving, i would take a big whiff of a cake, but always know that if i ate it, i would get the head spins and the sugar rush and feel awful.

    CAKE = BAD!!!

Yup, that's hard.... I have 3 day work meetings interstate every few weeks with most meals provided and that is HARD. If I'm at home I would bring something like a salad or an apple and eat that with one slice of pizza. When I'm away, I'll just make sure I pick up some fruit and have some muesli bars with me so I can eat them at the breaks if there is only cake available then I know I'm on track for the morning and don't have to eat too much of the lunch.

When I am in these situations I will first ask if they mind accommodating me as I have food allergies...............if they mind doing so, then I just bring something from home for myself.

"oh, today's pizza day? Whoops, I forgot and brought my lunch. Y'all go ahead..."

They'll get the hint about the 10th time you do this. I've already trained my coworkers not to bother me about food.

I got the word the other day that the boss was going to provide pizza for a lunch meeting. I freaking HATE those anyway, because it's just a sneaky way to get you to work through lunch :(

I stopped the guy in the hall mid morning and asked him where he was going to get the pizza and if he would mind ordering a couple salads as well as including a veggie pizza among the extreme meat lovers'. Then I went back to my desk and looked up the place online so I went into the meeting knowing how much I could eat.

The guy gave me a bit of a strange look when I asked for those things, because he's a couple of levels above me and doesn't even work at my location every day - but the stuff I asked for was there when the food arrived. (I wasn't the only one who ate salad, either, since it was available.) Lunch ended up being a little bit higher than I normally eat, but well within budget for the day.

I just bring my own lunch in. If people don't like it, tough. If I can see the pizza glisten, I do not want to eat it anyway, it's not a case of denying myself for my diet.

But I have worked out how to keep on track for the monthly birthday breakfast BBQ's - I just have something small as a morning tea and try and keep it as light and healthy as I can.
