There are no stupid questions- right?

Well this FEELS like a stupid question. I have two wonderful kids, (4 and almost 2) and am in the middle of a move. We now live in BFE (Bum "F" Egypt) and have nothing to do! It's beautiful outside but I don't have the kids bikes, scooters, jump ropes, etc. over here yet. Other then just going for a walk, what are some other things we can do to get active? I know walking is moving and moving is better then sitting and doing nothing. But I feel like walking isn't good enough and like I should be doing more!

Play tag, or kickball, frisbee, stuff like that. Heck, just blowing bubbles with kids can be a blast.

    Is there a park nearby?

I like adventures... where you race each other to the nearest tree/post/driveway and the winner gets to pick the next target.

    Chase bubbles.

    Throw a ball.

Go exploring in your new area.

Bake something and introduce yourself and your kids to the neighbours - take a basket and go for a walk.

Climb trees - or help the kids to at least! That's a bit of a strength workout for you with lifting them up and reaching with them.
  • I now live 45 minutes away from a park, library, store, anything!!! We're literally in the middle of no where!
(: The other suggestions sound great though!

    Thanks
  • Ya'll can play different sorts of tag games. There are TONS of websites that you can find different tag games and field games (even for super little kids). These will get you running a lot, making you burn calories and getting them to run so that they will be tired.

Walking is actually great exercise, I lost 100 lbs with just walking and random little exercises, mostly crunches or different arm exercises with weights. You could also check out exercise videos on youtube or sparkpeople and self.com has something where you can build a video workout.
  • you can build a playground (or buy one)! or get a sand box..... create a garden.. there is a bunch of stuff you can do!

Count out loud while doing these exercises to teach them numbers:
Crunches with the kids sitting on you.
    Standing calf raises.
    Deep lunges down the driveway.
    Wall squats.
Girl pushups with a kid on eat foot.

    Crab-walk races.
    Gorilla walks.
    Give them piggyback rides.
Walk with one on each leg, then switch after x amount of steps.
  • Are you looking for suggestions for all of you or just you? I know how you feel about being in the middle of no where... I'm 100 miles from the nearest nationwide chain of anything ie Walmart, Starbucks, etc etc. but thats Alaska for ya. Anyways, if you're looking for ways for you to work out theres tons of online work out demos and videos, try Self.com or youtube as well. You don't need weights for body weight exercises like pushups, lunges, jumping jacks, etc. As for the kids, just getting out side and playing games like tag, hide & seek, hopscotch, leap frog, etc can be fun!

Got a handheld GPS unit? Geocaching is a blast. Kids LOVE it because there's always a treasure at the end! There's lots of caches all over the place, you'd be surprised. And it helps you get to know your community and the surrounding communties.

Get a tennis ball or cricket bat and ball or soccer ball and go outside and play with the kids.
I bet you'll all make lots of new friends in no time!

Oh and put on some music and have a dancing competition.... I bet the kids would find it hilarious!
