STOP FREAKING OUT!!!!

Please, ladies and gents, stop flipping a cow when you see the scale tip off one pound in either direction? You'd think the darn sky is falling down ! It's not. It is PERFECTLY NORMAL for your scale to scurry a pound or two. It's called WATER RETENTION.

Your body is in constant flux. It seeks out what is termed "homeostasis" which is a medical word for BALANCE and there is no way humanly possible to have perfect balance at all times. A lot depends on sodium content (and we need SOME sodium in our diet), time of month (for ladies), and other factors. It is constantly in a state of reassessement. What little control we have by determining how much we eat should satisfy you. STOP FLIPPING OUT!

Weight loss is not an exact science. I have been fiddling between 151 and 155 for over a month now, and I'm perfectly fine with it. Please get ahold of yourselves!! Calm down and let the process WORK for you over TIME!!

Rant Over!!

EVERYONE KNOW THIS!! BUT, having said that you must remember that this site is here for support for EVERYONE!! A place people can come and ask advice, get tips, "rant" if they need to, etc., etc. and not be judged because we are all here for one reason... to get healthy.
OK now I have finished my rant!!

Very good point Renae! I thought the point of the support was to be able to talk to each other about that type of stuff. And besides, I had not noticed people "freaking out". Maybe I missed those posts. If there are posts I don't want to hear about or they keep going on, I simply ignore them and read something else.

some people freak out, myself included on occasion

but it can be very hard when you are doing everything right and the scales does not reflect this

it can be a struggle mentally at times :ohwell:

I think Russia meant this as a tounge in cheek funny thread......not yelling at anyone.

She just has been at this long enough (as have I) to know it will flux up and down no matter WHAT you do!!

Stress can be a main driver in weight control. Once I stopped stressing over each and ever digit on the scale, my weight has come off much easier.

And I have a nicer day!!

You are all doing to great. Some just getting started, some working for years. We are all in this together!

    Good luck!:flowerforyou:

yea, me too, i know the weight will come off eventually and i get your point

no point in frieking out, but for the newbies the scales thing can be a big issue and it is very hard in the beginning when you are starting out, ya know? :flowerforyou:

Russia, I completely agree. I know that this site is for support but sometime the postings I see really irritate me. I guess wisdom takes time and experience. Seeing the scale fluctuate is frustrating but the further along you are on this journey you realize that it is normal and NOT the end of the world. After all, the goal shouldn't be a number it should be your health and happiness.

Thank you AWT and KatWood.. My point is that if the mere fluctuation of a lb or two is going to drive someone batty, how are they going to handle plateaus, TOM or something even more serious? I'm not saying that no one should ever ask for support, that was not my intention. I'm not even saying you should never react to disappointments, just to deal with them. Numbers don't mean much of anything. Believing in the tape measure and self-education are the keys to this journey.

To help prove Russia's point...water weighs over 8 lb per gallon...so half a gallon, or 64 oz, is over 4 pounds!

The body is 2/3 or 3/4 water as well (I was taught both numbers...again, it's not exact science, every person's body is different) - so if you weigh 150 lb, at least 100lb of that is water, in some form or another!

Russia, I read your post and thought YES! Thank you for letting people know!
I've seen people who worry if it goes up by just alittle, or who weigh in the morning and then at night and are upset because the "gained" weight that day.

I agree this is a place to come for support. But it's also a place for information and I think you provided that.

I laughed again reading this. I remember going for Chinese the day before a WW weigh in. I had to pay that week because I was up 5 FIVE pounds!!!

I told the admin of the meeting I was floored and she asked what I ate the day before.

Guess what the next meeting was about!!!

OH, I wasn't yelling back at Russia... I was just ranting, too. That's what we are here for, right, to listen to one another!! I agreed with Russia on the point that you can't let the scale rule your life, I've done it myself for WAY too long.
Seriously, I was just ranting too because we do have so many new people and I want them to feel like they can ask or say anything and they will get the same positive advice that I got when I started.
Have you guys noticed we have a new guy.. Jazzy- Jeff who used to weigh over 600 pounds and he has already lost 166 POUNDS!!! We should keep encouraging and supporting one another because look how far we have all come and think about how many more people, like Jeff, that we could REALLY help!!
Russia, no offense was meant, I just think we are all awesome and we should keep it that way!!

I have to agree.......that's just the way it goes. The scale will fluctuate. Don't let it get to you or discourage you. Should you be able to vent and ask for support? YES! That is what this site is here for. But don't let it freak you out or upset you, is what is being said here:flowerforyou:

I do have to agree on the TOM threads. Personally, I think we need someone to write up a very good informational post on TOM and the side effects and have Mike lock it like he has the Newbie threads. So people have something to refer to. But personally, and this is only my opinion, I have known since 6th grade that a side effect of TOM is water retention....Its part of PMS. And with water retention, comes weight fluctuations. Yes, it gets frustrating, even for those who know this. But I'm wondering if a locked thread, for the ladies, with questions about TOM and weightloss, for all to refer to would help?? Not trying to be mean or rude or put anyone down. Or even tell people not to post this stuff....because we are here for you. But to me I just thought it was something that we all know we have to deal with :grumble: as women :grumble: .......STUPID TOM Beating_A_Dead_Horse.gif Sorry...I don't like that guy (TOM)

I don't even weigh myself that week....because I know the disappointment.

Another thing, don't weigh yourself every day. You are only asking for disappointment. One day you're down a pound, the next, you're up two. And it only causes disappointment. Pick one day a week or even every other week or once a month and only weigh on those days. That's just my 2 cents  :smooched: :flowerforyou:

    Love you all  :flowerforyou:

    Carry on....wait.gif

I don't think any of us doubt that the water retention is a large part of the difference in weight and I understand that a lot of people look way too much at their scale and worry from day to day weight difference. I don't agree with doing that. I just think the message came out like you were upset that people were posting about it. I am sorry if it sounded like I didn't agree with you about the water. I just feel that if people don't like what is being posted then they just need to avoid reading those. I tend to just read posts and only respond when it is something that applies to me or I agree with. So now that I know you are not mad at people for posting but just worrying too much about their weight changes, I am in total agreement. It just came off wrong. That's all.

Everyone keep up with your posts and supporting one another how you see fit.!!!!
    Have a great Day!
