Do I measure too much?

The other day my OH was in the kitchen with me and started laughing as I was measuring and weighing everything I was going to eat for lunch!!
I measure absolutely everything! I do this so i know exactly what i am eating and what i am burning! I use a heart rate monitor for exercise and my kitchen scale is my best friend! I don't want to estimate as i know its too easy to over estimate and get it very wrong!
Question is, am I taking it to extreme by measuring everything?
Thanks, x

What you're doing is fine. I measure and weigh everything too. It works for us so let them laugh :happy:0

If that's what you need to do for you, then that's what you need to do for you
Whatever works.... When I first started with MFP I did the same thing0 -
I measure absolutely everything as well, its the only way I can control how much I eat so you're not alone. It may seem weird to others (people have commented to me) but I don't care coz it works and i'm loosing weight0

nope. I do it too. I'd say it's a great thing. Caution though, to weigh, and not measure. Spoons and cups are highly inaccurate!0

Measure away! I do the same thing and joke wiht friends about it. They may think I'm out of my mind but hey - I lost a lot of weight doing it so whenever they are riding on me about it too much I remind them they haven't lost the weight I did. On MFP I haven't lost much, but I was on WW before and lost nearly 45 lbs there.0

You have to do what works best for you.... and if measuring everything works, keep with it. For some of the common things you eat regularly, you'll probably get used to eyeballing a portion size. But... until then, do what makes you happy.
I only measure some things, but I'll usually overestimate on things like meat, etc. i also don't measure my veggies too much since they are lower in calories. But... that seems to be working for me, so... I do it that way.
Keep up the good work, and don't worry about nay-sayers!0 -
I, too, weight and measure everything that is not pre-portioned! I'm not good at just looking at a portion and know how many oz., etc. it is, so to be safe.... yes.... measure and weigh! (Sometimes I wish I had a portable scale to take with me when I go out to eat..... but I think THAT might be going to the extreme!)0

I weigh most things! even to the point of if I want to butter a sandwhich I weigh the butter knife empty, then weigh it with butter on so I know how much I have used,
I have gotten good at eyeballing some portion sizes due to weighing them every single day, other things I still weigh out on the scales,
The only thing I dont weigh is what I see as low cal veg, tomatoes, celery, carrots, spinnage etc I just put 1/2 or 1 cup depending on how much I have used. High cal veg like parsnips, potatoes etc I do weigh to ensure I dont go over,
My other half used to laugh at me too until he wanted to lose some weight and asked me to portion controll his dinner as well as my own .... he doesnt laugh at me any more!0
