I used to go to the gym but have cancelled my subscription because I can't afford it. I have a work out DVD that I intend to start using a few times a week and it also says how many calories you are meant to be burning too so i can add that online to keep track. I was wondering if anyone else had any ideas for at home exercise?
I am currently looking for work but have between 9 and 3 when everyone else is at work/school to myself where I intend to try and do some form of exercise to help me lose weight.

Any tips or encouragement would be very much appreciated!
xx

    Hello!

Currently I am doing a P90X / Insanity Hybrid that I do at home. I have already graduated P90X and LOVE IT! =)

It's hard work, but has extremely fast results =)

What kinds of exercises do you like? Are you looking for more cardio, muscle building, or toning?

Try the iPhone or Android app called VirtuaGym or visit the website.
Good place to get workout to do at home, and it takes you through them step by step.
  • Do you have a Wii? There are lot of great exercises on the Wii Fit Plus, and I love the Summer Dance Party, too. If not, look on your cable for exercise on demand, or if on satellite (Directv), there is a dance music channel. I put the dance channel on and just dance for at least 30 minutes. I also like the Leslie Sansone Walk DVD, 1 and 2 mile walks. There are many DVDs to use, or the music channels as well. I guess you figured out I do all of my exercises at home and have lost over 6 inches in the past couple of months. Good luck!

Invest in a jump rope. Its a great way to get a good cardio workout without having to leave your house. Also, look at bodyrock.tv. A lot of those workouts are things you can do at home.
  • Hey there!

If you have access to a public library, you can borrow different workout DVDs from week to week to keep it fresh and exciting!

Here's a link to a great outdoor workout but you could also do it at home:

I do several exercise dvds over the course of the week in order to keep motivated and not get bored by doing the same thing over and over again.

Best of luck with your exercise, and with finding a job.

I think cardio would probably be good seen as though I'm looking to lose quite a bit, but toning would be nice too!! Would be great to think i didn't jiggle as much haha. As for muscle building; it would probably come in handy and although i realise I won't get bulky seen as though I'm female, I'm not sure if I want to do too much muscle building anyway :S

I shall google P90X now... haha

Would be open to trying some kind of fitness dvd type thing again, I used to do cross trainer, rowing machine, bike usually at the gym if that helps? But am happy to do floor work at home because nobody can see how ridiculous I look!!

Thank you everyone, just bit scared at where to start I guess!Just going to have to push myself to actually start doing something then I suppose it'l become easier.

Think will go t the library and check out a new DVD every now and again, see if that helps, and my sister might have a jump rope i could use. If I do lots of little different things it'll all add up wont it, just have to start now, haha!

Thanks again, good to know exercising will help as it's already helped you lot! I will lose weight! x

There are a ton of things you can do without the gym. As you mentioned, there are plenty of DVD's out there to choose from: Jillian Michaels, yoga, pilates, etc. A great website posted here by another member that helped me:

If you have cable, check & see if they offer free exercise videos. Do you have a bike? Can you walk around your neighborhood or local park?

I'm sure others will offer great suggestions, hope this helps.

I have a host of exercise dvds, all cheap from amazon if you dont go for the latest fad. Before I invested in dumbells I just used water bottles for hand weights. Mix these up so you are getting variety and dont get bored.
The wii or xbox have great workout games if you have access to these.
Stairs & walking - never underestimate the simple things!

Do you have an Ipod, Ipad, or Iphone? They have a great Nike Training Camp app that is a really good workout and worth looking into.

    Online sources (freebies)

www.exercisetv.tv ....... search for "free" workouts. This brings up cardio, toning, yoga.... lots of variety.
Check out Start! Walking 2 Miles with Leslie Sansone or Cardio Slim Down (1 mile with Leslie) ..... NOT intimidating at all. ANYONE can do these.

http://www.hulu.com/genres/Health-and-Wellness?type=tv ......... has a health & fitness channel - they have several "Self" videos (as well as others) - Look for the Ellen Barrett ones ..... she is wonderful

http://acacialifestyle.com/daily-workout-footer/c/344/ .......This is Acacia (a line of exercise videos). They feature different freebies each week

I like to test drive exercise videos whenever I can - I have 2 left feet and 1 bad knee.

If you don't have much knowledge/experience in aerobics and using free weights you should definitely start with standard exercise videos to learn proper form so you don't hurt yourself accidentally.
You will get better results more quickly if you combine the aerobics with weight training. Many videos these days combine both in the workouts. It's a fact that the more muscle you have in your body the more calories you burn even while doing nothing, so grab some hand weights and videos and get going! Any video where they do high-impact or difficult moves you cannot do simply keep moving while they do the hard stuff - stepping in place, knee lifts, side steps, etcetra and keep moving those arms!
As for obtaining workout tools, it is a great idea to borrow videos from the library. Haunt the local Goodwill and Salvation Army type stores to pick up cheap hand weights (you should start light, probably 2 lb weights) and also videos. Or, if you can squeeze out the $10 just buy a pair of 2 lb weights and think of it as an investment in yourself.
You can do anything you set your mind to! Schedule your workouts into your day and do it! Good luck!

Get workout routines to follow online (try ExerciseTV.com). What about hiking a nearby trail? Try walking and running. Go swimming in the ocean or a nearby lake. Dance in your living room. Mow the lawn or do some yard work. I'm sure there's plenty you could do.
