I went to the gym for the first time yesterday and took a kick boxing class, and let me tell you it kicked my butt!!!!! I burned at least 500 something calories, plus I only ate 1,200 calories yesterday. I thought sure when I weighed this morning that I would have lost a little, but instead I gained  a half of a pound???? What the heck????????????? I mean maybe it will show up later???????

    Eat your exercise calories
your body will "save up" because you are starving it
  • that is a bummer, my friend at work used to complain he jogged every morning and wasn't losing weight but gaining.... i know the old saying "muscle weighs more than fat" is that why he was gaining? he was eating healthy too...

It's funny, I can work out like a maniac all week and see nothing come off, but then, when I get lazy over the weekend and don't work out, I drop a pound. I wouldn't worry about it. It's not just about dropping the weight, it's about getting healthy! The weight loss is just a bonus.

It is also not unusual for your body to store water and/or food after such a hard workout - for healing. Also if you are going to be working out that hard be sure to get plenty of protein and LOTS and LOTS of water, once your body sees you are not trying to kill it, you'll see the results on the scale. ALSO, muscle weighs more than fat, kick boxing can seriously work your muscles and they too will grab onto a lot of water and hold it so they to can heal, once your body (ie. sore muscles) returns to normal or becomes accustomed to such a vigorous routine, they will not retain as much fluid.
But, while you're at it, congrats on such an ASSKICKING workout!!

Your body needs reassurance that it wont starve
Which is why when you eat your correct amount of calories you should be losing,
its enough for you body to be okay, but still lose
Also, this is why if you dont go over board on calories on a day when you rest and don't go to the gym
you might see that you have actually lost.
It's your body's way of going "phew, he/she isn't trying to kill me"

Thanks everyone! :flowerforyou: I looked pretty ridiculous doing it because I am so overweight, but let me tell you I kept up with all the "thinner" ladies working out! They were not even breaking a sweat and I looked like I just stepped out of the shower!!!! LOL but, I heard someone you have to start acting skinny if you want to be skinny so I made my mind up if I enjoy doing something I am not going to let the "stares" scare me away anymore!! I pay membership and I am going to use it. Mostly because I was tired of walking on the treadmill and doing the elliptical machine, I need a change. I love kick boxing!!!! Anyway Wed night I think I will do water aerobics! I have not been drinking enough water and went to bed hungry last night, but I want this weight off sooooooo bad that I am trying my hardest!!!! Thanks guys for the support! I don't get it any where else.
