Up an inch in waist? Can sodium bloat do this?

It was my birthday this past weekend, and hubby did a triathlon...so lots of celebrating. I had a few high sodium/calorie meals. My measurements on my thighs and hips seem to be the same but I've added an inch/inch and a half almost around my waist. AHHHHH! I haven't gone on the scale as to not freak myself out as there was thai and bbq involved so I'm sure the sodium was through the roof. Can this be bloat? Or did I gain an inch from a few big meals over the weekend? :ohwell:

Yes, it's likely bloat. It would be almost impossible to gain an inch of fat around your middle in one weekend.0

Yes bloating can do this...I'm experiencing it too. Drink lots of water, watch your sodium, and get in a good sweaty workout...it'll be gone before you know it!0

could be bloat due to water retention, or it could be ingested food in your system that has not passed yet, or maybe a combo of the 2.0 -
Your waist measurement will change all day long, no matter what you eat. As you fill up your digestive tract, you will get bigger. Yes, sodium can cause bloat. But always do your measurements first thing in the morning, no/light clothes, before eating or drinking anything. Measure consistently at that time.0

you can't really gain an inch and a half from a few big meals especially at your size so I'm going to wager on water weight.. it happens to me too..
just minimize your calories & sodium the next few days and drink lots of water to flush it all out. I also try to make the next few days low carb and drink some green tea. I hear it helps with cleaning out your body. I'm not sure how much it really helps but it always makes me feel better lol0 -
more than likely yes...but dont' let this get to you, if you get back on the train and drink lots of water you will lose it quick like the next day. I can gain 3 lbs on the weekend and then work out and the next day it's gone. Just depends on the food you eat.0

Thanks guys. I don't dare step on the scale for a solid week. I had a number of big ol' meals. I always hope that like many people, a few days over my calories helps break through a plateau...but it usually just makes me gain and then I spend the next 3 months losing those same 3 pounds.0

Waist measurement is nearly impossible to take in the same place twice, even if measured by somebody trained in anthropometry... it could just be an error!0

YES YES YES!!! I am SO sensative to sodium, it literally drives me nuts!!! If I eat certain things I can bank on bigger waist/higher scale. Oddly enough fat and calories have a less impact immediately. Harley at all, really.....Damn you, sodium!!! LOL0

This. When I first wake up, my waist is nice and tiny and my stomach is flat. As soon as I eat anything substantial, the measurement goes up and continues to do so throughout the day. I never take measurements at night because I literally add an inch or so to my waist every single day from food/water.0
