Are you a "seperatist" or a "mixer"???

When it comes to your food, do you like to keep it all seperated in its own quadrants of the plate or do you like it all mixed and blended together??

Do you like to mix different stuff on the same forkfull, or do you keep it simple - one scoop of one type of food at a time??

Me? I'm a seperatist. I prefer my food not to touch, and I generally finish all of one thing before I move on to the next. As it turns out, this has been a help since now I make sure I eat my veggies first, and if I get full, at least I've eaten the healthiest part and left behind some carbs.

My hubby? He likes everything mashed together...preferably with some ketchup on top. :)

So...what say you???? Seperatist or mixer???

And if you're brave enough.....what's the weirdest thing you've done with food as a mixer or seperatist??

(eg when my neice eats a hotdog, she puts mustard on one side of the bun and ketchup on the other...so they don't really touch)
  • Seperatist, all the way. If I cook something and put it on one plate, I have to put it on another plate because I can't have the food "juices" sneaking its way towards my other food. The only foods I mix together is corn and mashed potatoes.

Really depends on the foods. I used to eat all of one food, then the next, in a counter-clockwise manner, beginning with whatever food was facing away from me when my plate was put in front of me. Yeah, I'm a wierdo. I know.

Now, there are certain foods that I've discovered are really good mixed, like mashed potatoes, gravy, and sweet corn. My kids brought this to light for me, and I thank them!!

So, I have no answer. Or a big answer of neither. Or both... Clearly, I need to think this thing through some more.

I've been wanting some of those divided plates for a while now... I know people will make fun of me though:laugh: I already get made fun of just for picking my chicken apart if it's on the bone. Who wants to eat all the stringy stuff and discolored meat??

I keep all my different foods on separate plates so they feel special and don't have the opportunity to fight with each other. My therapist says thats perfectly normal behaviour.

ok.... I'm kidding but I do try and not mix it all together like one big food orgy.
  • I am more of a mixer but there are some things that do not go together. Also, if there is something i do not like I try to eat that first so that I do not have that taste in my mouth in the end. I eat my carbs last becasue, well, I don't know I guess I still think carbs are not so great, lol. I usually never finish my plate and I would much rathe reat my protein and fruit/veggie before getting full. Use to be the other way round, so i am proud of myself!

    seperate!! touching is icky

Weirdest thing.... stuffing paper towels around juicy foods to they dont get my other stuff wet.
  • Separate :)
  • Separate...Nothing can really touch. I have gotten better with age, but there is just nothing grosser than the juice of something blending with something else. EWWW!

So I have little plates meant for sampling, and I have split up my food onto several plates to keep it from touching. Mostly if its moist food. At Thanksgiving, I wont eat some foods cause I just dont want the hassle!

I'm a mixer for sure! I'm an elitist mixer, at that, cause I look down on those who separate!

Clearly I'm a mixer, otherwise my vitamix blender would have been a seriously pointless investment!
here are some of my stranger mixes for your amusement:

    dandelion greens and bananas

    carrots and oranges

    beets and apples

    avocado, cocoa and orange

currently trying come up wth a plan for pumpkin....

I'm surprised there are so many seperatists. In my family I'm one of two - everyone else are mixers.

lol, this. not that it really matters because i'm such a picky eater that there usually isn't much on my plate. However, if it's anything that can be eaten with garlic bread, then i'm a mixer.
