I gotta say that Mike has stated in a couple of threads that they are working on getting the separate group forum thing going so that people can have more leeway in what they want to talk about while leaving the main board focused on health and weight loss/gain/control, so it seems to me that should solve the issue and it doesn't need to be gone on about. Do I personally like the "sexy" threads or whatever some want to call them? Not really. I am an adult, and believe me, I like me some sexy and quite a few things beyond, but I prefer that behind closed doors (ie, looking at me and talking to me you would never know). But, I can also easily ignore those threads, it just doesn't bother me. But, it is a public forum and clearly bothers some and I think there should be at least a bit of courtesy on a free forum open for all to better themselves through healthy living. I don't care either way (except that some newbies might be scared of by some of the threads lately), but some who use this site do, and it is supposed to at least be a comfortable environment for all, even if we can't all express ourselves fully. I like that this site tries to accommodate all and that they are currently working on a solution to allow those with special interests that may draw fire from others to stay and make use of the site without interfering with Mike's vision of a site open to all and not just a majority (and yes, I do curb my own comments sometimes - mostly I do this by just trying to keep to the fitness stuff, as that is the main reason I am here - for instance I'm not going to spout a bunch of ethical vegan rhetoric, this isn't a vegan site - we all have to adjust in a public setting).

Why post a thread about it? Why would an internet message board be any different than the world? Squeaky wheel gets greased. Every single time.

Explain please. Why post a thread about what? Are you referring to the topic I covered? Well I posted it because we seemed to have reached Defcon 4 around here. Folks are thinking the end of the MFP world is coming. Just posting this I have PM from friends telling me I will get kicked. I think if we talk about it intelligently and cut down on the reactive actions that have been taking place, in a few weeks MFP will be just like it was.

    Here's my explanation:

I'm not giving one :) I don't feel like being banned for the rest of my life:) However, if you'd like to hear my squeaky wheel theory, feel free to PM me:)

If the mods would just lighten up a little the boards would go back to normal.
I have been on various boards covering many topics for years, probably more years than some of you been alive. Anytime a board gets popular it brings in some smartasses that just want to have fun. When you try to stifle them they will try harder to buck the system, after all that is human nature..more you try to tell someone no the more the want to do it. If the mods would just loosen up a bit the board will right itself after a few weeks. No one comes here unless hey wanna lose some weight so by default the conversations will gravitate back to that topic if allowed. The more you lock, delete and ban folks the more you give them other subjects to talk about. The last fitness board I was at went through this same issue, some folks are just more outgoing than others. Make a chit chat - enter at your own rish section then. Of course posting desparaging things about others members should always be discouraged..but the sexy stuff..why not. We are all adults.
And the mods abusing their powers is really a bad thing, you are fanning the fire by being petty or self-rightous. This board is not your playground, it is the communities. If you are a mod you need to adapt to the community not the reverse, more so if you are claiming a religious aspect to your nature. And if you can't do that due to your personal beliefs then you should re-consider being a mod on a board where adult talk could happen. People lose weight here and say things to encourage themselves and others. The most basic aspect of that is sex. Sure some lose weight for health reason, climbing those stairs and such, but the majority of folks lose weight to look hot, and as they do it is natural for some talks to turn sexy as they begin to feel sexy about themselves. Why discourage that? As long as it is not blatantly x-rated then all should be good.
But, this is someone elses board and they had a vision for it, and I respect that. Just be aware though that sometimes visions have to adapt and change (see myspace).

    That is all.

What some people are missing in your statment (although they're agreeing) is that you clearly state that you do not condone the desparaging comments about others or blatant x-rated comments. Those are the ones that bother me the most. There's nothing wrong with talking about looking sexy on a weight loss site. However, you can talk about looking sexy and hot without being x-rated, crude and vulgar. There is a difference. And, I'm sorry, but this is not the place to bash anyone for asking questions about weight loss, regardless of how many times it's been asked.....even in the chit-chat section. It's easy to say, "then don't read it", but you don't know what the comment is unitl you read it. Just look at how some of these topics have gone the past couple of days. The titles are innocent enough, yet a troll gets in there and turns it into something the OP didn't intend. There are trolls out there trying to make threads get deleted. They are the ones causing the issue, NOT the ones who are speaking up against it. I'm not one to "report" posts or threads, I will actually post my comment and hope for a mature debate. That's difficult to do with some people on here. They resort to name calling, personal attacks, and even threats of injury (yes, I was threatened today for speaking up about this same issue). I'm all for the mods deleting the "repeat offenders" regarding the rules. I am also in favor of people having fun discussions in the chit-chat, fun and game area until it gets extremely vulgar, x-rated, or bashes individuals.

Good point. I edit myself quite often, as much as it pains me.

Man, if only any of the people here that think the mods are being fair saw Reddit or 4Chan or...well any other forums Ive been on.

The posters on here aren't cut out for that kind of environment though Cracky-chan. I suspect that's why they felt comfortable posting here in the first place. 99% of people here wouldn't last 5 minutes on /b/ so expecting the same kind of moderation isn't realistic...

Well said Sean, another post talked about this as have others and if you are going to have chit- chat and fun it should be modded with a little more leeway, if not, then get rid of it and keep this strictly exercise only. I think that would be wrong to do since people like to socialize. I'm new here and don't know the story behind all these issues. I do believeve as a mod you should do it according to the rules stated, not on your personal or religious beliefs. You are given a responsibility to keep this a fun place for people. I like the idea of locking a topic up with an explanation, I've been on other sites that do this. You have no guessing on why it was locked and stopped.

There is more leeway given in the chit-chat section. No one wants to see this site turn in to "exercise only". However, the chit-chat section tends to get taken over by trolls or certain types of people that need to be on a different site for the discussions they want to have. It's gotten really bad lately, but I suspect that's what the trolls are going for. Something needs to be done.
