Fiber

Is there such a thing as to much fiber in your diet. I typically go over my daily allowance for sugar and fiber. I am working on the sugar and was hoping the fiber did not really matter. Any thought or suggestions? Thanks!!

  • It matters if you're taking in too much fiber and not enough water...causes constipation.

I would like to know how you go over on fibre please lol, i need to keep mine up all the time and with a gluten allergy i struggle a bit, all my fibre comes from fruit and veg right now :)
  • I just started. I get most of my fiber from greek yogurt, whole foods 1/2 naked popcorn with a hint of olive oil, and vita tops. Not sure how those things work with a gluten allergy.
  • Thanks I've been drinking at least my eight cups a day.
  • Thanks! That was a good article.

Your best sources of fiber are whole grains, fresh fruits, fresh veggies and beans. I took a nutrition class at the hospital where I work which was mainly focused on fiber. If you're interested check out this website - fullplatediet.com. Some if it is geared towards a vegetarian lifestyle (and I am not a vegetarian!) but there is some really good info to be had.

I do not follow this diet per se . . but I do incorporate some of the concepts and it's worked well for me.

Also, as a previous poster mentioned . . yes, it is possible to have too much fiber which can lead to a person being "backed up". Drinking lots of water is VERY important.
  • Thanks!
