Any MFP trail runners out there who can give a beginner some

I've got a 5K trail race this Saturday. It's my 3rd 5K but my very first trail run. I'd just like to hear from other MFP members who like to run and have some experience with the trail. Maybe we can be friends?!

Watch your footing, and if the hill is too steep walk it. It's hard to judge that part because its a 5K, so it's kind of "short" in terms of typical trail races. If the trail is kind of tricky as far as rocks & logs go, its better to take shorter strides than longer ones. If it's a single track, people will usually tell you which side they are passing you on. (or if you are passing them, let them know)

Other than that, just have fun!

    Feel free to friend me.
  • I've run 2 half marathons and will be running my first trail 1/2 on Sunday. For training, I've been going to the most hilly area I could find and running on trails. I tend to walk up the steep hills and jog down. I feel prepared for my race but I've never run an official trail race. I did buy trail shoes with sturdier foot plate due to the uneven ground. I'm anxious to hear what others have to say.
  • watch your footing! thanks to a dog and a rock i fell while trail running last weekend, not fun! also, if it's a narrow-ish trail, always say "on your left!" (or right) as you pass! good luck and have fun!

it really depends on the trail... if its really well groomed then there isnt much difference from road running. If its more trailish with rocks and roots, then shorten your stride and run more on the balls of your feet. As others have said, watch your footing and use extra care if rocks/roots are wet as they can get really slippery.
