i've heard people talk about how great it is blah blah blah, but other than obviously tasting like coconut, what else does it have going for it? Is it sweet, tart, strong? and how healthy is it really?
any and all thoughts/opinions are appreciated

I don't like it.0

I like it. It is very good for you. You can probably Google the nutritional info.0

I tried it once and don't remember it tasting like coconut at all. I can't remember specifically what it tasted like but it was yucky.0

It's a pretty good source of potassium. :drinker:0

I agree I tried coconut water and do not like it.. But to each his own!!0

I was curious too having heard that it is good for weight loss - I have heard it is a good source of oil/fat the kind that makes you lose weight like flax seed oil or omega 3-6, so found this info:

Feel free to keep me posted and let us know how it is working:)

There are a lot of "flavored" coconut waters out there as well. Lost of potassium. I've had it a couple times, not my most favorite thing to drink. I haven't tried the flavored variety though.0

I think it tastes disgusting. It is supposed to hydrate you better then water. Help you lose weight Etc. I personally think its just another fad. Any time something comes around that people say cures everything I'm skeptical. It's worth a try if you're curious. I can't see how it would hurt you.0

I love it. I really like the Taste Nirvana brand... it's much better than most imo. Taste Nirvana is pretty sweet, but some others taste like dirty water kind of. LOL
Coconut water has a bunch of potassium (electrolytes) and is good for building muscles, keeping you hydrated and is also good for your heart!
If you are going to try it, I would definitely recommend the Taste Nirvana brand. I'm pretty sure they sell it at Whole Foods!0 -
I wouldn't drink it just for fun or taste, it is a good source of sodium and potassium though. I do use it on long runs (over an hour). I mix 12 oz coconut water with 4 oz OJ and take that with me. I like it better than salt water (what I used to use) and it is less processed than sports drinks.0

I'd rather the coconut milk in thai food than drink coconut water... yuck! Maybe it would be good as the water you use to make rice as a subsitude to coconut milk? Hey who knows it may become a new healthy idea for thai recipes. Just kiddin.... my son gave me some one day to try, turns out he hated it and wanted to see my face pucker up.... AND it did andhonestly I see more benefits in water with lemon. Taster and more heath benefits!0

Coconut Water Benefits – Nutrition – Electrolytes
Coconut water has the five electrolytes that are already in our bodies. This includes potassium, magnesium, phosphorous, sodium and calcium. All of these electrolytes help in certain functions of our body. Also, being a natural health drink, coconut water does not contain any preservatives, fats or cholesterol. This makes it a good drink for everybody regardless of your conditions.
For instance, coconut water contains a considerable amount of potassium – about 295mg – far more than any other sports drinks and energy drinks, which contain only about 117mg of potassium
It's delicious, and very refreshing!0 -
It's a pretty good source of potassium. :drinker:
Yes, this. It has significantly more potassium than bananas for a lot fewer calories.
I use it in my post- workout recovery smoothies.
It is not sweet on its own. You need to read labels and find the brands with no additives or sweetners.0 -
It has an acquired taste. I first tasted a cold fresh one in PR and hated it. To me it had no coconut taste and was a little salty. I decided to try it again but this time the flavored in the box (Vita Coco). I love the peach mango flavor. I also love the ONE Active berry flavor and Zico.
As I was posting I see someone had already posted the exact same thing. I removed mine.0 -
I tried it once and I didn't like it. It's probably one of those things you have to develop a taste for. I'd be willing to try it again, especially now that I've weaned my taste buds off sweet things.0
-
I tried a few different brands and I didn't care for it. I think it's overpriced too.0

I love the Vita Coco pineapple, of course it's sweetened so probably not the best choice for those watching carbs or sugar. I drink it to replace electrolytes....Florida sun can be brutal.0

it's a great hydrator. I know that for me there's been times when I have a headache, and realize I've barely had any liquids that day. Whenever I've chugged a serving of coconut water, my headache was alleviated in about 15 min. The potassium is also known to help prevent muscle cramps.
Yes, it is high in potassium, but as far as other electrolytes it is low in them. So if you've just had a super intense workout and know that you've lost a lot of water from your body, opt for smart water (which has no calories)0 -
Jillian Michael raves about it and endorses it so it must be good, is not genetically modified which is a bonus. Can't get it in my country, which is a shame.0

I like that one too, it's good!0 -
Like a lot of people that have replied, I think it taste bad. However.....drum roll please.... I LOVE the "So Delicious" Coconut Milk Mini fudge bars and the mini Chocolate Almond bars- in the ice cream section at most healthy stores and even some not so healthy sotres. They are amazing and I swear it seems like they help me to lose weight. Of course within my calorie range..0

i drink young coconut water after bikram yoga. i like the slightly sweet taste (but it must be cold, very cold). it helps rebalance my potassium and sugars.
there are a lot of different brands. several are really nasty, so if you try one you don't like, don't give up on it. my favorite brand is 'amy and brian'. http://www.amyandbriannaturals.com/0 -
I have tried coconut water a couple of different times, but I don't like it at all. My significant other LOVES it and drinks it all the time after his runs and being on the elliptical.
I also have friends who love it and find it particularly refreshing after long, hot runs.
I did not like the texture (??) it seemed a bit viscous or thick-something-not sure I am describing it well.
I will try it again because it has such great health benefits but I am not sure it will ever be something I enjoy.0 -
Thank for all the replies....... it looks like i'll just have to give it a shot, and now i know which brands to lean toward....0
