Snot vs Exercise, yeah, snot

So I'm looking for a scientific reason for this, as it throws me for a loop.

Over the past three days I've had terrible allergies, a stuffy snotty nose, and I'm on the verge of a sinus infection I'm sure. My nose is currently a snot factory and I've gone through a box and a half of tissues.

So when I decided I'd still try to hit the gym regardless of my health, I prepared myself with 10 tissues for my planned 30 minutes on the elliptical. I hop on, and book it (great energy level for sick and icky). After about 20 minutes I realized that I have been breathing perfectly fine through my nose, and I didn't need to use a single tissue. I kept going for 45 minutes, never needing a tissue. And then 2 minutes after stepping off the elliptical, my nose restuffed, and became runny/icky again, and I immediately needed a tissue. WHY?!?!

Does it have something to do with the blood vessels, higher blood flow, increase body heat? What is it? I felt so good, so healthy and energetic, I want to get back on. I'm miserable now. Boo.

I like to think that my body is spending all of it's resources on getting blood to my legs and can't be bothered gathering the extra energy to make the snot.

    Not quite scientific....
  • I wonder about this too. I've looked it up and there are wonderful explanations for it but I can't remember them to post them back to you. I'm a snotty allergy mess on many days but while at work (I'm on my feet the whole time) my nose is usually pretty clear. As soon as I get home and get sat down then it stops back up again. It's nuts and I hate it but its norm for me.
