Okay so i have a question about staitionary bikes and calorie burns ,,, i use my bike for almost all of my cardio i have a couple of questions does anyone know how the resistance levels affect how many calories you burn my resistance levels start from 1 and go to 8 , does any one have any idea how to work out what the difference would be from working out on level 1 to say working out on level 5 calorie wise at the moment the computer on the bike says i burn about 700 or so calories in a hour workout on setting 3 if i bumped that up to 4 would i burn more calories or just build more muscle?
also the add a excercise function on here has stationary bikeing and it has the intesity levels of low moderate and high but doesnt say what low moderate or high means like i mean how many mph for example

The higher your resistance level, the more calories you will burn in the same amount of time because your heart level increases. It would be the same if you walked a mile on a flat surface and then walked a mile uphill. Your heart rate increases which causes you to burn more calories. Yes you will build some muscle but you will tone the muscle you have rather than build a lot. Exercise will increase muscle definition but lifting heavier weights will increase muscle size. I hope this is helpful.0

There are many databases out there giving calories for different degrees of exercise. Suggest a google search to find the answer to that question. I also exercise on a stationary bike, and agree that resistance should made a difference. A higher end cycle probably figures all of that out. Mine is a Canadian Tire cheapy. I consider the Calorie count to be a low-end ballpark, because it doesn't figure in my weight, as well as resistance. But I am fine with knowing that I probably have a margin of error in the calories that works in my favour inso far as weight loss is concerned.0
