I want to change up my workout and I have tons of ideas of how to do so and tonight I thought of rollerblading. I have not rollerbladed in probably 5 years or so and I am fine on the skates, just don't know how to stop. There is a small quartermile park near me where roller blades are welcome and I was thinking of going there. There is grass on both sides if I would need to stop but do I take that risk? It's not like there are cars around the track it's all shielded by grass but then again I only know how to stop jumping on the grass. Again, i'm not worried about the momentum or actual "blading", my real question goes down to am I dumb for knowing i have an issue stopping but go anyway or do i skip and think of another option to do.

    Go for it!

I go rollerblading at our park and I can't stop, but its a designated area and it's not like im ever in contact w/ vehicles or anything dangerous. I usually use my car to stop when i'm coming back lol
  • Funny u just wrote this!! I don't think it dumb. Im not even a good skater and I went with my daughter last night who plays ringette (awesome skater) here she is decked out in helmet and wrist gaurds and I'm wearing nothing for protection! Now thats DUMB!! LOL
Anyway, any idea how much calories are burnt rollerblading??

Rollerbladding is so much fun.... even if you fall! And I have... on my BUM... so hard that I thought I felt my brain move in my skull... hahahaha... I haven't been on rollerblades in many, many years; but I do remember how to stop. RB's have the brakes on the back... just lift your toes a tiny bit and the brake will hit the pavement allowing you to slow down or stop. Enjoy your adventure!

If it sounds fun and you want to go... then go! Have a good time!
And, really, you are never going to learn to stop if you do not practice. There is grass to stop you if you need it and you said there are other people rollerblading. So watch them of ask them for tips.
Fun and Active how can that be a bad thing???

thanks guys! I will definitely go tonight now :-) This site estimated about 310 calories burned via rollerblading in 30 minutes for my weight but since it doesnt take into consideration hills or speed I am going to use an app called runkeeper on my phone to track it. If you see short, blond girl rollerblading at a park tonight you might want to step aside JUST IN CASE it's me haha
