Burning too many calories to eat back?

Okay so I went to the gym today after work and then came home and went for a walk/jog/playtime with my dog and in total burned 705 calories. So far with my breakfast and lunch, I've consumed 770 calories. My total calorie intake per day is set at 1200, so now after working out at 5:30 p.m., I'm expected to consume 1135 calories before bedtime! Aaahh! Besides saying "hello wine bottle!", what do you guys usually do in this scenario? Because that's a LOT of calories to eat in only a few hours. I ate them all last night and I ended up just feeling full, and it sucked. I hate when I feel like I have to cut my workouts short, just so that I won't have to deal with consuming so many more calories. I'll appreciate any input, thanks in advance! :)

Plan your day out in advance so you aren't stuffing your face at 10pm. Most days I have my entire day (meals, snacks, and exercise) in the food log before I'm done with my morning coffee. You can't always know how many calories you'll burn but you probably have a pretty good estimate.

Agreed =) If you can plan ahead, do so! If I know I am going to be working out later in the day, I try (I fail miserably sometimes!) to eat a bigger breakfast and get some snacks in... this way I'm not stuffing my face at the end of the day, and my body is fueled for an awesome workout, too!

I honestly don't worry about it....if I ate well during the day and fall short on my calories good for me. There are plenty of days I wind up going over too. I recently read an article that said we were all way too hung up on day in day out calorie counts, and should be looking more longer term, like a week instead.

But if you must, enjoy your wine, and a fistful of nuts and that will take care about half of your calories. Whatever you do, don't eat just for the sake of eating. If you aren't hungry, don't worry about it.

You don't need to eat back all of your exercise calories. That said, when you know you're going to exercise, be sure to get a snack in.

Absolutely need to plan ahead. This takes some getting used to (until you have a regular workout routine and can estimate burned calories ahead of time) but it's SO worth it!

I just make sure that I have a net of over 1200. I used to have my daily goal set at 1300 and i was only loosing a lb-1.5lbs per week. ( i have a lot to lose). I increased it up to 1550 and I have seen a significant difference. If i notice I am really low at the end of the day I have a glass of chocolate milk (I've been addicted to chocolate milk since I was pregnant). It isn't something heavy in your stomach that needs to be digested and it increases you calorie intake.

Peanut butter/almond butter, olive oil, avocado, Nuts, potatoes, cheese, pasta, bread..... you don't have to eat a lot of those things for it to add up.

Wow, thanks for the quick responses! You're all SO right. I guess I'm so used to trying to keep my meals to around 400 calories, that the fact that I can consume more per meal pre-workout didn't even cross my mind! Blonde moment, haha.

    Thanks again!

don't worry about it today. Your weekly average is more important than what happens on a day to day basis. Eat a special treat tonight (I would totally have a glass of wine) and just try not to make it a regular thing.

I track more over a week than day to day. For instance my day is finished, I've eaten over 2500 calories today but my net cals is only like 1100 and some. However i'm not even remotely hungry so i'm not eating anything else. Tomorrow if i feel extra hungry i'll eat some back from today :)
