Issues with Suunto M2 HRM

Does anyone else have a Suunto and had problems with having your heart rate read? The first couples times I used mine, it worked fine. But now, it takes AGES to even read my heartrate, and it drops out all the time during my workout, so it's not accurate at ALL. It's really frustrating. Is this maybe an issue with Suunto or just I got a faulty model? I think it might be the watch, reading the belt and doing all the calculations, because when I'm on a machine, it read my belt wirelessly... I just don't trust the machines to be accurate since they don't know my height/sex, just weight.
Anywhoo, has anyone else had this issue? Is there anything I can do about it, short of attempting to return it to the store (I doubt they'll accept it) or sending it in for repairs/warranty?
