This may be a silly question but when they talk about jump rope calories burned are they talking about jumping with your feet together or can it be a "walking" style of jump rope? I was looking at how many calories it would burn and am thinking about digging out the old rope....way better than walking for hours on end and who knows maybe it will help with those pelvic floor muscles too

I jump rope when I have to...it is more burn with feet together than as a skip. Good luck!

We call it skipping here in the UK :)

It's really hard to do if you haven't done it since you were a kid, lol... I found that 30 seconds was very exhausting at first!

It definitely depends on the type of skipping that you're doing and how fast you are doing it. From a calorie count, the highest calorie burn that I can achieve is doing high knees, where you bring your knees up as high as you can and jog in place while skipping at a fairly rapid clip. If I could sustain it for an hour (which I can't) it burns about 700 - 800 calories per hour for me. A two-footed bounce step burns less for me just because it is slower than a jogging step like high knees. Again, though, if you can crank up the speed with a two-foot bounce step, you can probably get a really great calorie burn.

Typically, I use my jump rope for intervals (so I jump for 50 seconds and rest for 10 seconds -- and do about 10 - 20 sets). Or you can do them as part of a larger set of exercises (for example, 4 minutes of skipping, then do some sit-ups, do 4 more minutes of skipping, then do push-ups, etc.)

Anyway, I love it for the great calorie burn in a short amount of time (and it's fun!)
