I am a research biologist and I study desert plants in the Mojave and Sonoran deserts. I love being outside, hanging out with my friends and family and playing guitar.

Hi Carolyn and good luck on your journey. I took the "scientific" approach to weight loss attempting to lose 1 pound per week by cutting back 500 calories per day on what would maintain my existing week. That 500 times 7 days a week is 3500 calories or 1 pound. I used My Fitness Pal to keep track and in 1 year have lost 55 pounds. It works but it is a discipline. At the same time it is a load of fun. I went from a 2X to a medium and started lifting weights to boot and am totally ripped at this point. Any encouragement I can offer let me know. Jim0
