Hi,
I'm so excited to join MyFitnessPal, and I hope your support and motivation keep me more accountable and help me reach my goals.
A few years ago when I was a teenager, I started a healthy lifestyle and lost quite a few pounds and kept it on till now. The problem is, now that I'm out of grad school, I have more money, more free time, and lots of friends. Eating out is a big part of my social life. And we always have lots of free (and very unhealthy) food at my work place. I'm around temptations all the time. I still keep my weight on track, but I'm more of a yoyo-dieter now, swinging between 5-10 pounds heavier than my ideal weight (which I maintained for a long time last year).
I have 2 weaknesses that I really like to overcome in this challenge:
1) Cheating on my diet: I am a very black & white person. If I eat one unhealthy food or eat out, I will keep doing so for at least a day or 2. One bite leads to many more. Apart from the mental thing, I believe that if I totally stop eating junk food, my physical cravings for those foods will decrease too.
2) I weigh myself everyday. I have tried it every week too. Although it's good when you try to maintain, or have lots of weight to lose, I find it to be detrimental to my diet. I don't have much to lose, so if I won't see much change in a week, or if I gain a little from one day to the other, I will get discouraged and stop my diet thinking it's not working. Even if I lose, I sometimes think now I can let myself stray a bit. So no stepping on scale for me.
And I really want to start working out too. 3 sessions a week would be great to start. I'm planning to do Jillian Michaels DVDs, I own a few of them.
I am starting from Thurs, Sept 15th. Feel free to join me, even if your challenge and goals are different. You can join any time. I will log in at least 2-3 times a week to update this. I also printed a challenge calendar and stuck it to my fridge that I'll check everyday!
My next weigh in will be Mon, Oct 31st. 46 days till then!
Let's be hot for Halloween!
