Fruit & veg

Hello!

A colleague and I were discussing fruit and veg. I calorie counts and she uses WW. Now with WW she doesn't need to count fruit and veg but I do as they have calories.

Why would that be? I am aware some veg is higher than others but I do eat quite a bit...........

    If WW doesn't count fruit & veg, it's a crock - just look at the calories in a banana!!

    Weight Watchers allow you a certain amount of "points" during the day. The fact that fruit and vegs aren't worth any point is taken into account in the points system. At the end of the day, it doesn't make a huge difference if you do WW and don't count fruit/vegs OR count calories and count your fruit/vegs.

    If I was on WW I'd be chomping my way through about 3 avocados a day and wondering why I wasn't losing any weight. Or dried fruit.

    The new ww pro points plan you don't count some fruit and most veg. this is because the fruit has a lot of water content and results in negative calories ( body needs more to burn than fruit contains). I also found that the points value for my normal food shot up so that probably out weighs the fruit cals.
    i'm now counting cals and able to eat way more than when i was on the pro points plan.

    I've done weight watchers, and spent some time working out the math behind it, and it's roughly equivalent to calorie counting except that the "points" reward for high fiber and punish for fats. I think the idea is to encourage eating nutrition-dense foods (which is a good idea!) and to avoid food trash.

    But for me, I find the WW system much too convoluted to keep up with. Calories and proportional distribution across carbs, proteins, fats, and fiber works for me.

    Agreed. The only thing WW is good for, or indeed any similar organisation, is taking your money from you. :devil:

    Avocado and dried fruit aren't free of points! ;-)

    I'm not following WW but I have in the past and it's a pretty good way of changing your eating habits. Lots of people have lost weight on their program which probably mean it's not completely crazy. I just don't see the point (pun intended) in counting points, calories work just as well imho.

    I'd get ground down with trying to remember what you're allowed to eat and what you're not in that case! Yes, I know friends who have done well on it, I just don't see how!

    I had a real shock after I had eaten my totally healthy handfull of dried apricots as a snack, and then toted it up on my diary.

    Yep, WW is complicated... I remember always carrying the WW booklet with me! (They probably a smart phone app that simplifies things by now)

    I will have to find the low cal veg...........and try and like them! Peas are a bit of a shocker I must admit. :ohwell:
