I have pretty much always battled (on and off) with my weight - I've always been "chunky" - my weight has fluctuated from a size 12 and 11 1/2 stone - to a size 18 (UK) and 15 stone. I've lost 3-4 stone a couple of times in the last 15 years - but I end up yo-yo dieting and never keep the weight off for more than a year or so at a time. And here I am again with a couple of stone to lose.
Here's what one website says about hypnotherapy for weight loss :
People lose weight with hypnosis, its been proven over and over again. A weight loss plan including hypnosis for weight loss evokes the mind in its subconscious state thus relaxing its conscious state. The concept behind this, is to program the subconscious mind in tandem to the requirement of the body for the effectual losing of weight.
There are many benefits to losing weight with hypnosis. There is no longer a need to curb the hunger pangs for delicious dishes as your mind will make your body demand only those foods that it has been programmed to ask for. People who lose weight with hypnosis discover how much easier it is to stay on track when you lose that feeling of depriving yourself but longing for the right things instead.
Hmm.. I'm not so sure, worth a try or !?!?!
I'm sure a lot of you can empathise with me on this... I use food as a crutch - to cheer me up when down, to feel better in control when another part of my life seems so "out of control", or to celebrate when I'm in a good mood (meal out) and have been prone to binge eating in the past (thankfully haven't done this for a LONG time!)... I love the idea of tackling my "relationship with food", so that my total mental outlook is re-addressed and tackled - whilst continuing to exercise regularly and eat sensibly. What do you think ?
I'm honestly not after a miracle cure, and I'm not after an alternative to eating healthily and exercising etc - I don't think hypnotherapy would help me lose weight necessarily - just help me to tackle the unlining issues and feel better about it.
Any thoughts ?? Any opinions/experiences ?

start walking. Walk for 20 mins, then start increasing your walks. This sounds all mental. Get out there and get moving. you can do it. just start small0

I'm no expert but I can say a few things. I spent years as a comedian and worked with a number of hypnotists in that time. During the week they'd do the comedy show and on Sunday's they'd have the "Stop smoking, lose weight" yada yada shows they put on.
Some of the waitstaff tried it. Didn't work for any of them.
Hypnosis is not mind control. It's really nothing actually. The people you see being hypnotized are really just people with the kind of personality who "go in" for things is the best way I can put it. They willingly choose, either at a conscious or sub-concious level, to do what the hypnotist asks of them.
If you're the type of person it can work on it will all work, for as long as you're with the hypnotist. But you won't get any lasting benefits. It doesn't change the way you think or feel or live. It's just a trick. If it actually worked we'd all get hypnotized to fix all our bad habits.0 -
Sounds like hocus pocus to me0

Hypnosis is a tool that works, but it has to be something you want to do. It isn't a magic bullet, even if it sounds like it. You need to find a hypnotist you trust and feel comfortable with. I can link you to a couple of free mp3 files if you want to have a try.
My own experience with hypnosis: My brain has a lot of barriers in it, that I have to choose to open for the hypnosis to work. This is due to a form of PTSD. Some hypnosis works with me, some doesn't. It works better when the hypnotist knows my brain's limitations.
My boyfriend however, adapts to hypnotism very well. He no longer craves fast food, and the last few times he's eaten his favourite (doner kebab), he says that it doesn't taste as good as he remembers. He also has hypnotic suggestions that prompt him to go for a walk after work every day. We have used hypnotism in lots of other ways too. Send me a message if you want more info.0 -

I am exercising (5 days per week - CV, strength training, spinning, bodypump) - doing really well - lost 10lbs in 3 weeks. So combined with eating healthy it works - I get. I did mean, as well as eating sensibly and exercising regularly (to tackle underlining issues). NOT instead of exercising!0 -
It doesn't seem to me like you need help losing weight. You've done it several times over the last 15 years. Your problem is maintaining the weight loss.
A lifestyle change is the only way to keep weight off.
You may have some kind of food addiction that only a professional can help you with. Whatever the case may be, you'll have to get that under control first. IMO.0 -
i think you have to have the right mindset for it. i did hypnotherapy when i was in high school, and HATED it, i would fall asleep so often that i was not allowed to sit in the comfy chair anymore. my dad did it and loved it and lost weight, but he can also lose weight on just about anything.0
