Yes, but that was a long time ago when my school tuition fees were more than I could afford!!

Seriously though, I've heard some great things about it from colleagues who've done classes, even for fun so if you find it enjoyable, by all means go at it!

From what I've seen, the activity itself involves alot of core, but as with any activity, you get stronger as you practice various movements. For gym training, I would recommend free weights over machines in any current routine you're doing as that requires more stability. As well, incorporating some ball movements will assist with your balance training as well.

Pilates and Yoga would also apply to giving you strength and flexibility throughout all the major joints in the body

The best exercise is the one you'll do regularly because you enjoy it!

Just go. The classes I took weren't a lot different from bellydancing to start. They should break you in easy. Pole and tall shoes come later. Great core workout.

I have tried it ( for exercise) and it requires alot of upper body strength. Flexibility is helpful too.

Warning: you WILL be sore the next day or so after you do it. It is much harder than it looks.

Hope you enjoy it if you give it a try:)

I tried it once.. of course it wasn't so much a dance as a fall... and not so much a pole as a giraffe.
  • I took classes for several years. Be prepared for "war wounds" (Lots of bruises in awkward places!). But you will definitely develop your core and back muscles. It's a great workout. And lots of fun!

Be careful, though. It'll make you pee a lot. The bright side is that you'll be peeing out fat.

    Oh, wait...

I have also Been thinking the same thing.. I have heard it is a good calorie burn plus enjoyable.. I have several friends who have installed a couple poles in their homes b ut I have never tempted "Yet" to try it out.. Might need to be a lil more flexible first.. Let me know if you do it and like.. ;)
  • it is so much fun.. you forget you are working out.. I love it...
