I used to be a "no sugar" eater.. in the past 2 weeks I have brought fruit into my diet. My sugar intake has surely increased. Is this sugar "ok"? Or should I go back to "no fruit"?

Confused again.

    Try not to overanalyse things.

Everything in moderation is ok. If you cut things out you just want them more, and are more likely to fall off.

Just don't gorge on it. Make it a part of your meal and have it with some protein and carbohydrate so it metabolizes correctly and doesn't turn to fat immediately. There is lot's of great nutrients in the whole fruit so do enjoy it!
  • Hi Cora, your body needs the nutrients, fibre and antioxidants in fresh fruit - keep them in your diet but just don't go crazy with them. Natural fruit sugars are fine, it's the over processed dead sugars that you want to be keeping out. Hope this helps.

I have eliminated sugar from my diet in the form of cakes, cookies, candy, ice cream etc., but I allow myself unlimited quantities of fruit as long as I am within my calorie range. I find that the water and fiber in fruit really fills me up and satisfies me. Plus, I know i'm not likely to be tempted to binge on bananas or apples like I might with brownies or pastries.

  • I too live very low carb, but fruit is a healthy carb. I am careful about which ones I eat often tho. I rarely eat grapes and I only eat bananas when they are more green than yellow as the sugar is lower. Fruit sugars are ok as long as you are smart about it. Fresh fruit only, not canned or juice....
