Pity Party for One - Back Pain

Woke up this morning with terrible back pain. Hardly can stand up straight.
The last time I had this happen was in May of 2010. I had been seeing a chiropractor for months but was still hurting. Woke up one morning in so much pain, that I went to urgent care as I couldn't even bend over to tie my shoes and it was a Saturday. The doc gave me muscle relaxers and pain killers. After taking it easy for a week, the pain went away and have been pain free since.
I could care less about the back pain except for right now. I have a half marathon on October 9th. I am scheduled to run 10.5 tomorrow and for how much pain I am in, there is no way. It hurts to walk upright.
I just want to cry...seriously. I started running for the first time in my life last August using the C25k at the age of 42. I am enjoying this running venture and have had great success with my training plan thus far.
I know I must have slept in an odd angle. I took a muscle relaxer this morning and am tempted to call in to work so I can lay flat. It hurts to sit.
I just had to vent and have my pity party. I will be so bummed and disappointed if this side lines my half marathon

You may need physical therapy... I have been dealing with lower back pain for YEARS. Important to stick with it, too (daily stretching and exercise)0

I feel you. That's the worst! I had that very same thing happen to me-it's excruciating. You need a full body massage. Hope you feel fit soon!0

Lots of stretching, lots of water today, and more stretching. The most useful thing I learned from my experience is while you're still in bed, bend each knee to your chest and stretch those muscles. Pull each knee up, slowly and keep stretching. I know where you're coming from, and I am so proud that you are a runner. I know it is tough, but there is a little relief in your future!0

Thanks everyone!
I do have my stretches I did during the last time this happened. I did them faithfully for many months even though the pain was gone but stopped doing them thinking I no longer needed to. The doc said to keep it up even though my back feels good. I need to listen better!
I stretch after each run but do nothing to stretch that lower left back where this issue happens.
I'm calling out sick to work and taking it easy. Sitting in a cube all day sounds painful and not to mention walking around hunched over is embarrassing enough.
Going right now, I will go dig out that booklet of stretches and do them no matter how painful they are and keep up on it. Glad you guys mentioned that. I totally forgot all about them.0 -
Guess I don't need to add my post saying "stretch!" lol
Seriously though, tight hamstrings are often the reason for back pain.0
