Welcome.:flowerforyou: I was always over on my protein too. A lot of people think the % for protein is low. You can change the percentages so you have a higher protein %, then adjust the carbs and fat.0

I've found that for my dietary goals, MFP's guidelines are too low on protein. So I made my percentage of protein higher and decreased the percentage of fat and carbs. I still go over. I have heard that protein in *very large* amounts can be a bad thing, but in general there is no such thing is too much protein. Especially if you're working out a lot, you probably need *more* protein. I am a runner and I feel I perform at my best when I have *at least* 75 g of protein a day. (I'm 5'2 and about 130lbs). There are days when I get 100g or more of protein and it never bothers me; in fact, I think it helps.
I've also noticed that the healthy foods that I try to primarly eat -- because they help me look and feel my very best -- have a lot of protein. Like chicken (I think it's a miracle food -- 25 g of protein and only about 130 calories!!!), fish, turkey, lean ham etc. If I were you I wouldn't worry about going over your protein and I'd even increase your protein goal on MFP and congratulate yourself for getting lots of good-for-you protein.
Good luck.0 -
I also meant to add -- I started losing weight more efficienty *and* being able to work out more efficiently when I started making a conscious effort to eat at least 75 grams of protein a day. I put whey protein powder in my cereal or oatmeal in the mornings, I eat turkey sandwiches for lunch, I eat chicken or fish and veggies for dinner, and I have a protein bar for a snack or before or after I work out. (I snack on fruits, veggies, soup, etc. during the day as well to keep my metabolism up... and if I'm low on protein for the day, my snack is tuna fish on crackers... or sometimes just tuna fish hee hee, I love it). I make sure to put protein in every meal or have a protein snack if I didn't, and then I find it's easier to get my 75g in a day and I often go over. And that is how I found my "secret" to consistent and maintainable weight loss, so I am a huge protein fan. Also, yay for peanut butter!0

Here's what I have heard. That Guys need between .75 to 1 gram of protien for every pound, and women need .5 to .75 grams per pound. This sight seems to have protien set on the low end.0

I've read that you should eat 1 gram of protein for every kilogram of lean body mass. It's probably recommended that men have more because on average, they are leaner...0 -
Yes men need more protien than women.
I'm not sure how much my goal says that I'm suppose to eat, but I know I eat about 100 grams a day.0 -
Sometimes I forget to even look at those but they do help in "balancing" my food intake. I don't think there is anything to fret. If we were getting all protein and no carbs, now that might not be good for us. Im one of those folks that believes we need an amount of each of the 5 foodgroups, meats, dairy, fruits, vegies and whole grains. And for vegetarians, they get their protein from other sources so I could have said proteins instead of meat. I am leaning more away from red meats. Still have burger, 93/7(the leanest I can find)
Glad you are here, denise:)I am tracking my food and for the past 2 days I go overi n protein. Is this bad?0 -
