Bicycle seat recommendations (ladies)

Our son just got his bike and I want to ride with him but my issue is extreme discomfort from the seat. I know I need to get one of those seats that has a hole in the middle to redistribute the weight but I wondered if anyone has faced this issue and found a seat they love.

I have tried a wider seat and it works wonders. You can buy them almost anywhere, even walmart has them. It looks like the seat for a beach cruiser bike but I would swear by it! It definitely makes bike riding much more comfortable.0

It depends on where the pain is and how long you've been riding. If its in your sit bones, you need to measure the distance between them and find a seat specific to those measurements. If its in the front, then a narrower nose on the front of the seat. If you don't ride that often or far, then one of the big padded seats may work fine. Fit is really important. Most people hate the stock seats that come on Trek bikes. They say they are miserable. I love mine. It fits me perfectly.0

I would recommend heading to your local bike shop and asking them what they recommend. The one I bought has gel pads in it and it is wonderful.0

I need a new seat too, but because it's crumbling apart! We went on a ride last weekend and my butt was all black from it!
I saw the bigger gel ones at WalMart... Might give that a go.0 -
Mine is super, no pain, no numb bum. After 3 or 4 tries, it's the best I've ever had. But I have to check tonight and get back to you.0

Take the bike to a shop that can fit the seat. It may just be a matter of it being too high, too far forward, too far back etc. In my case, I needed extra padding for my tailbone. Took a couple of weeks for the intense tailbone pain to go away, but now when I ride on my SUPER EXTRA BIG SEAT I don't have pain. It's pretty funny lookin', but I don't care as I'm no longer in pain and I can sleep now!0

I recommend going to a bike shop because they will be more knowledgeable about this than you (unless you are an avid cyclist or work at a bike shop). You can't simply go into the bike section of Walmart and choose the softest and biggest seat possible because it might be just a waste a money and a detriment to your health and your bike-riding experience. Bike seats have to be fitted to the person's needs as well as the type of bike they have.
Big cushy seats don't necessarily guarantee comfort. They might be an impediment to your excercise. My bike was given to me and the person who gave it to me also decided to by a seat for it, which happened to be the cushioniest one possible, and peddling was a real bleep in the *kitten* because it got in the way of my legs pushing down and seat kept making me slip forward.0 -
You can get a good seat at a bike shop and have them install it. But bike shops tend to recommend the kind of seat (or saddle) that they carry. I've been disappointed a couple of times.
I've had a Serfas Rx I.C.S., dual density, women's seat for about 2 months now. I commute to work for 40 km round trip, 2 or 3 times a week. It is the most comfortable that I've ever had. No pain, no numb bum, no chafing.
