Under 1200? How under are you going? Your body may think you arent eating enough

Okay, this just happened to me a couple weeks ago. I'm back down with a significant loss on top of it. it's just your body retaining water like it does with any new routine. No reason to stress (although I did the exact same thing as you did, and posted on the forum to find out what was wrong with me...lol)

Yes love it is... 1. working out builds muscle. 2. building muscles sometimes requires your body to retain water. 3. You should not be under 1200 calories you should be at 1200 calories bare minimum or your body will revolt and go into starvation mode. Are you eating back your exercise calories because if your not you really are not getting the minimum of 1200 calories. So maybe add an extra protien filled snack.

agree! probably not eating enough. and never worry about 1lb. you will see that you will fluctuate a few pounds every so often.

stay away from the scale for a while, it will make you crazy if not.

i used to weigh myself EVERYDAY.

umm, not quite. What happens is, over time, the body gets very efficient at that lower calorie level (hanging onto every possible calorie it can, burning fat storage only as an absolute last resort), metabolism slows, so if you eat even a bit more, you'll gain. The body is preparing for a famine. Also lots of exercise can make the body retain water, so drink plenty of extra water.

I'd suggest never allowing your net calories to go below 1200. So if you're only eating 1200 (or worse, below that) yet still exercising, you need to eat more.

Thank you all... I really needed the support. Tried measuring also, no loss in inches except my biceps, I lost an inch. Will try to up the cals with a protien shake when I need the calories. I was just shocked this morning. Almost burst into tears. But I will continue to push. Something has to give eventually!

And this is why I get on the scale every morning no matter what..... because weight will fluctuate and I don't want to miss the day that I actually lost something... 1/2 a pound... anything!

My thought is that you should not count it as a pound gained but one that you fluctuated.... you just keep doing what you're doing.

I'm sure that you will get a lot of 'you're putting on muscle' or 'retaining water'.... blah, blah, blah... not going to go into that theory for the 100th time on this post.... this are resons why weight fluctuates.....

This happens to me too and is massively frustrating - but I keep on with the running and fitness because at this point it is part of my lifestyle. But I have been known to shed a tear or 2 and throw a temper tantrum. Currently, I am actually up 3 pounds after upping my running mileage to 20 miles per week, though I have lost more inches. Damn scale. LOL. er, darn scale. :grumble:
