HRM vs. FitBit

I've been searching high and low for a decent heart rate monitor to track my calories burned. I live in Canada and for some reason it's next to impossible to find something under $200 that actually works.
The FitBit seems to have good reviews, but I'm not entirely sure how accurate it is. So far, the price is right, but I'm not sure which would be the smarter option.
I'm not a crazy fitness buff, so I don't need anything extremely fancy.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I bought the Polar FT4 on amazon for $50. It works great and gives me a better idea of what I am burning.
I have not heard of the fitbit though to weigh in on that.0 -
I have the polar ft4 and love it very easy to use. but on another note i heard about the fitbit and bought it and abslutely just what i needed so simple to use amazing keeps track of everything i like it because it is so small no one notices i am wearing it. it is very accurate there is a site i log into where i enter my tracking info and it has been a great asset to my journey............so good luck with your choice and also another helpful thing i did was to keep the cost down because i was confused i purchased mine from ebay for a great price0

I would def go with the HRM, Polar to be exact.. super easy and wayy accurate! I Just bought my polar from amazon for $60.00 my friend just bought a fit bit for $100 . If I am correct the fitbit doesn't do heart rate??? if thats the case I think it is wayyy more important to know the calories Iburned in a work out!! Good luck with your decision!0

I have a fitbit and was really excited when I first got it but hardly use it now. It is very good if you want a pedometer but it doesn't do heart rate or anything. It just counts steps/miles/calories. It also gets a little confusing if you want to do other activities besides walking because it doesn't count that at all.0

I live in Toronto and I have a Timex Ironman Easyrunner HRM w/chest strap. I purchased it from SportChek for $117. I love it! I have not had any problems with it at all.0

I picked up a Garmin 405cx for $219 from GPS Central in Calgary, they have a web site. The 405 is great, works very well for tracking heart rate and calories in doors (with GPS turned off), If you run there's GPS tracking and the Garmin site(no charge) that keeps all your info and workouts. You can now even set up courses on the site and transfer to your watch. Absolutely a great purchase.0
