Any other salt-aholics out here?

I LOVE salt. It's one of my particular challanges. I really could pick up a granule of sea salt and just pop it in my mouth. But I KNOW I have to cut back.

Today I tried this salt-free blend from Penzey's spices and it was awesome! No salt, but it adds a savory kick like salt would. I added it to my rice instead of all the salt I would have added. (I did still add a little.) It was so tasty, I could probably kick the salt all together.

Just thought I'd share, in case some of you are in the same boat as me.

Yeah, I have BIG problems with my salt intake. I've been trying to watch it lately, but I am known to salt food before I taste it. = (

I am big-time. I just ate a hard boiled egg and I HAD to put salt on it I added pepper so I wouldn't go crazy with the salt but I have been looking for substitutes. Thanks for the tip.

I love salt... and my bloated body and high blood pressure beat me up every time for it. There are so many hidden culprits out there, especially restaurant food!!!! I've tried a lot of salt alternatives and spice alternatives and a lot of them give me terrible stomach aches. Thanks for recommending one that I haven't tried yet!!!

A former salt fiend here! It takes about a month to adjust your taste buds to a low salt way of eating (I keep mine around 1,000-1,200mg/day). One tip is to only salt once...either while cooking or at the table. While cooking add it towards the end so it's more prominent and at the table be diligent with the amount. Using Kosher or large grain sea salt can help too.

Penny's has lots of salt free blends. My favorites are medium chili powder, Mural of Flavors, and singapore blend (lemon pepper).

I read somewhere that amchoor powder is a good salt alternative, but I haven't tried it myself. Might be worth a google :)

I eat salt on everything and don't pay any attention at all. I just got some black Hawaiian salt that is awesome on fruit, and some smoked Malden sea salt that looks like flakes of fish food and is great on meats.

Salt sensitivity is a genetic condition that only about 1/3 of the population has - in spite of the general opinion around here. I just finished a history book on salt - well I found it interesting... People in ancient and medieval times at a shockingly staggering amount of salt because it was their major method of food preservation. The average consumption was something like TEN TIMES the average American's consumption now.

I just looked at the label, it's called "Forward". http://www.penzeys.com/cgi-bin/penzeys/p-penzeyspenzeysforward.html

So far nothing, not even the potasium based salt alternatives have curbed my craving. But this has cut it a bit.

I'm SO addicted to salt. Will it make me gain weight? I know water weight it will but if I follow my diet correctly?

Lol. My favorite thing to do is sprinkle salt on top of V8 juice and spoon it off. Yum.
