I need new workout shoes. I do a little of everything, some jogging, walking, kick boxing, sometimes hiking... Basically looking for an all around good shoe, if there is one out there. About 6 months ago I bought a pair of Nikes, hated them from the beginning they always hurt my feet, but yesterday during a jog/walk I got horrible blisters. Time for new shoes. Whats your reccomendations.

I very highly recommend these shoes:

They get me through long walks across campus, they got me through six hours on my feet in the floor section at a Lady Gaga concert, they got me through horrible shifts at the grocery store dragging shopping carts back into the store...I haven't tested them for kickboxing or jogging, but for walking and general standing around, they're awesome. (Plus they're on sale. And I think if you use the code JNBOSLICKDEALS you might get an additional 20% off.)

I know this isn't the answer you are looking for, but you may want to consider TWO different pairs: 1 for running, and 1 for the other workouts.

Cross-training shoes are usually heavier and are structurally designed for heavy impact from all directions, where a running/ walking shoe is designed for forward-motion impact, and are usually much more lighter.

Every time I ran in a pair of cross-trainers, I regretted it, and conversely, I don't get the right effects hitting the weights in a running shoe.
  • No that is a great answer thank you. I have the worst time with shoes, I am telling you. The ones I have now are running shoes, which I really don't do much of. Probably my problem. Thanks for the info!

I'm not a runner, but I walk a LOT and love hiking trails. I bought a pair of Salomans from Zappos.com. It's a great site to buy shoes because shipping is free and if you need to return shoes, that's free too! I also bought several pairs of "anti-blister" socks from Sports Authority. I'm sure they're sold at all sporting goods stores, they help a lot!!

New Balance...they come in widths and are inexpensive so to speak compared to other brands
  • Ascics gels are great!

Dang. I just tried the code and it's not working. But the $49.99 sale price is still pretty decent compared to what they normally cost (about $70+).

That depends on your feet, and I agree with the person that suggests more than one pair of shoes.

I have short, fat, flat feet, and, as such, I get HORRIBLE shin splints. My feet are difficult to size, and most movement can hurt with the wrong shoe. I REALLY like Easy Spirits anti-gravity shoes (they have a near-rocker shoe called Getupandgo that I LOVE for walking and running. I put orthotics in (berry feet) in them, because ES shoes don't have the toughest soles. The combination made my shin splints disappear, AND the irritation on the ingrown nail on my dominant (larger) foot.

If you can find a pair that fits, the true curve-bottomed rocker shoes are great for running -- it's a really natural movement with the shoe. However, the last time I tried them, *I* got horrendous blisters, so be careful of those.

New Balance, if you have a normal-width foot, makes a WONDERFUL line of shoes, and they've got the roll-bar in them that helps. I'd try those out (go to a store, first). Their wides aren't sufficient for an extra-fat foot, but if you can get a pair that fits, properly, they make a great shoe.

i walk ALOT and buy new tennis shoes a couple of times a year, because they break down. the last two pairs i have bought were sauconeys, they are a great "all around" shoes and super comfy. i am literally in mine from about 8:30 in the am until 7-8 in the pm and they are still comf, they breath really well, have great traction and fashionable to boot.
