Starting calories

Hi I'm fairly new and am discovering that no matter what starting weight or age, everyone's daily calorie count seems to be 1200. That just doesn't make sense.

Nope. Many people have a different starting cal besides 1200. The thing is that 1200 is the lowest you should go to lose weight without risking malnutrition.0

funny because my fiancés is around 2000 and mine's 1800, he's loosing 2lb a week and is 100lb heavier than me and I'm loosing .5lb a week0

My calories are 1530, and when I switch the settings to losing one pound a week it goes up to 1700 calories. I am 6'1'' though. That's a lot of woman.0

That's not true! Mine is 1410 a day! And it used to be over 1600. People just like to eat the minimum because they THINK it makes you lose weight faster.0

I think it depends on how much weight you want to loose and how quickly you want to loose it. My goal is 1420. I am taking it slow, only aiming to lose 1/2 pound a week and I don't have much to loose. I could choose to loose quicker and it would change to much lower but I definitely am a foodie and need to eat more than 1200 per day. I am happy with my goal and I stay pretty full with every meal.0

Mine is 1670 based on age, weight and activity level and the fact that I am aiming to lose 1lb a week. If I wanted to lose 2lb a week it would be 1200 because that is the lowest it should be. I hope that sheds some light on it for you0

I noticed that too when I first signed up on MFP. I thought it was a little odd so I went under tools and used the BMR calculator. It came up with something other than 1200 and I adjusted my daily calorie goal to that number. So far it works.0

It depends on your lifestyle. I have a active job. So my calories are based on that. 1200 definately would not be enough. Plus I elected to try to lose 1lb a week. These things factor into the calorie count. This is my understanding.0

Not at all. But if you want 2+ lbs a week weight loss, then of course it ends up being. If you don't have much weight to lose then you'll probably be landed with 1200 too, even if you only want to lose 1/2 a lb a week. It's just that that is the lowest you should go.0

Thanks for the input guys! I'll see what I can change up.0
