I have ten pounds of pears to do something with! I cooked up a bunch with cinnamon & vanilla and pureed it for baby food, and we set aside some for lunches. But I want to take some and make a yummy dessert. Anyone have any suggestions?

  • Well, I have always chopped them and tossed them in Vanilla yogurt frozen or not.

You could do a puff pastry with the pears on top?

    Caramelize them?

    Pears poached in wine

    4 pears
    ½ cup sugar
    1 cup water
2 cups pinot gris wine (any white or even rose will work)
    1 star anise
    1 cinnamon stick
    1 lemon, zested

    1. Bring all ingredients except pears to the boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.

    2. Peel pears and cut out the base and keep to one side. Core the pear with a paring knife.

    3. Add pears and bases to the poaching liquid and gently simmer for 1 hour turning occasionally to ensure even colour. Let cool in the liquid which can be refrigerated and re-used.

Serve with some lovely yoghurt, or creme fresh (you can put a bit of honey through the yoghurt if you wish)
  • Pear crumble.

Just cut up the pears and then put a crumble topping on the top.
