I am planning to buy and read this as well. Unfortunately, I have a ton of grading to do this weekend so not sure if I will be able to get to the bookstore. A couple of my friends here on MFP are doing it and love it--I just wish I had heard about it over the summer when I was off work (teacher) and had more time to read it. I guess I will just have to make some time b/c it sounds great. Feel free to add me as a friend and we can compare notes on the program.

It's a book with a workout program to build strength and loose weight. It's a 6 month program with 3 total body workouts per week. I think the book is great!

Actually no. The majority of females lift light weights because of fear of getting "bulky" and muscular. This has been shown to be false and that lifting heavier weights for females can get them better results and dispells the myth that heavy lifting is only for gaining muscle.

My sister and I did Level 1 of this last month and really loved it! I am fast approaching the third trimester of my fifth pregnancy, so am calling it quits for now, but plan to start back up after I have this baby. The book is awesome! Good luck with your workouts. :)

    Any tips for beginners?

Don't be afraid to pick up a heavy weight, just make sure it's not so heavy that you hurt yourself! Like the book says, put down the barbie weights! Do the warm ups so that you don't injure yourself and make sure to stretch after every workout. I know if I don't stretch enough my hamstrings get so tight. Eat plenty of protein to aid in muscle repair.

I am always stretching. I don't stretch before the workout because it's supposedly not a good idea to stretch a muscle that's cool. So I do a dynamic warm up - arm swings, mini squats, butt kicks. Honestly I take a lot of what I do from Jillian Michaels. I did her dvd's for a while and she has a lot of good warm ups.

I've also been doing it for 3 weeks (by the way there is a tread for that book going on) Perso, my weight jump up and down 3 pounds but I've lost inches and I can see the results. I say make sure you follow the 40%/30%/30% and make sure to have at least 100g of protein a day. Don't be scared to pick up heavy weight. At first you will find that your hands is very weak to hold the weights but like everything else, they will get stronger.

    Good luck

Well, I did the first work out and it went a lot better than I though. I'm used to heavy weights-I deadlift 115lbs., 3 sets, 8reps. I never done BB squat, but I do squats with 25lbs in each hand. I do front KB squats with 60 lbs., so I'm not scared of the weights. :) Today I felt like I held back with BW and lighter weights for me, but next time I'm increasing.
I, too, do dynamic warm up and stretch at the end. Today it took me 40min. with everything.

Weird, the first work out is 15 reps x 2 sets. Only the last 2 workouts are 3 set of 8 rep.

I was just saying what I was doing until today. Starting today I'm sticking to NROLFW and doing exactly what the book says.

The first time I've been out of the gym in 40 min. in a long time! :) Are you doing the NROLFW? I know you have some personal stuff happening, just wondering if you started.
