    coleslaw on the burger... heavenly

    agreed very good
  • Steam parsnips (cut in chunks) and then put them under the broiler (without oil, or with a tiny spray) for roasted heavenly parsnips! They are in season now. Cheers!

If you're wanting potato goodness, cut potatoes into wedges, toss in a tiny bit of olive oil and bake in the oven - much nicer than chips in my humble opinion.

Butternut squash chips (either toss in a little oil, or use that nasty cooking spray a la weightwatchers) are also quite yummy.
  • Home made oven chips - cut up a potato into wedges (clean the skin and leave it on), spread out on a dinner plate and microwave for about 5 min (or boil for a few min. until getting soft but not totally soft). Lay out on a baking tray, spritz with a spray of oil, sprinkle lightly with salt, pepper, seasonings etc as you prefer, bake in the oven 'till they're crispy on the outside and soft in the middle.

Calories = a potato and a few sprays of oil.

    Broccoli!

    Mmm. I love broccoli.
  • What about Sweet Potato Fries? Here are two recipes that I found.

    BAKED SWEET POTATO FRIES

    Servings: 4 • Serving Size: 1/2 sweet potato •Points Plus: 3
    Calories: 100.6 • Fat: 3.7 g • Protein: 1.2 g • Carb: 16 g • Fiber: 2.0 g • Sugar: 0.1 g

    Ingredients:

    • 2 medium sweet potatoes, washed
    • 1 tbsp. olive oil
    • paprika to taste
    • salt and fresh pepper to taste

    Directions:

    Preheat oven to 425°.

Slice each potato into 1/2 inch thick strips. Toss with oil, salt, pepper and paprika. Place on a non-stick baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes.

Turn potatoes and bake until bottom is browned, about 10-15 minutes more. Serve immediately.

    BAKED CHIPOTLE SWEET POTATO FRIES

    Servings: 2 • Serving Size: 1/2 • Points Plus: 3
    Calories: 108 • Fat: 4.7g • Protein: 1.1 g • Carb: 15.8 g • Fiber: 2.0 g

    Ingredients:

    • 1 sweet potato, (about 5" long) peeled and cut into 1/4" fries
    • 2 tsp. olive oil
    • sea salt
    • ground chipotle chile
    • garlic powder

    Directions:

    Preheat oven to 425°.

In a medium bowl, toss sweet potatoes with olive oil, salt, garlic powder and chipotle chile powder. Spread potatoes on a baking sheet. Avoid crowding so potatoes get crisp. Bake 15 minutes. Turn and bake an additional 10-15 minutes. Ovens may vary so keep an eye on them and be sure to cut all the potatoes the same size to ensure even cooking.

A Jamie Oliver-style rainbow salad is great (bit like homemade coleslaw). Just chuck whatever veg you have through the grating attachment on a food processor so when you tip it on to the plate it forms a rainbow of colour.

Depending how low carb I'm going I use white and red cabbage, onion, raw beetroot, carrot, courgette etc. Don't need to peel anything - just a quick wash will do.

Then mix some pesto or any chopped fresh herbs with some yogurt (I love Greek for the creaminess) and olive oil and drizzle over the top.

Delicious and great when you have guests too.

oooh, this sounds good with the pesto!

I go with a side salad, or roasted/grilled veggies - if you're using the grill for the burgers, toss some veggies in some olive oil & spices & grill them too! You can skewer, or use a grill pan, or make your own out of foil.

Yeah, I love pesto. You have to have a good read of the label to make sure there are no nasties but it's such a strong flavour you don't need much to get a hit of basil.

Another thing to do with burgers is 'fake' Big Macs. Instead of a bun, wrap the burger in a lettuce leaf along with mayo (if you're allowed it) with some mustard mixed in, dill pickle, raw onion and cheese (again depending on what eating plan you are following). Doing low carb I love this!

Any veggies you like, for fun cut them to the size of fries. Fresh fruit salad (no dressing or sauce in it) is good with burgers too.

I love wrapping lettuce around my burger instead of the bun as well, but I use just a little thousand island dressing instead of the mayo. After-all the "secret sauce" is 1000 dressing. It does taste just like a Big Mac!!

What don't you get? Is it the anything as in all the different ideas people are talking about? In that case, we're saying these are some of the things WE like and it may be anything you might want to try or like. If it's about any veggies, try eating raw veggies and for fun cut them in the same manner as a fry. Obviously you won't cut a radish or a mushroom, but you can cut a cucumber, carrot, jicama, etc. Hope I cleared it up for you.

i just have a burger, i don't feel the need to have anything with it anymore... i'm pretty sure that's what mcdonalds has done to us, by making us think we need drinks and chips and shakes and sundaes.

i make burger for tea, fill them up with salad and stuff, and don't have anything on the side, that is my meal. and it is satisfying. i figure i already have salad in the burger, so i don't need it on the side.

it really doesn't need anything. it's a hurdle i struggle with, having to reduce my portion sizes, but that's what i do, just one burger... just one serving. if you want something, have a cup of coffee or tea after.

    I like making kale chips...

Place ripped up kale on a pan and bake at 400'F till crispy, put a little sea salt on it, and enjoy! It is SO good!! crunchy, and a great substitute for fries!
