Like .. In a weight loss/fitness support forum like this .. posting "I hate fat people", or " Fat is UGLY" then going on to imply they are all useless and lazy. I can not get over how rampant this way of thinking is.

Am I the only one who finds that disturbing? That's like walking into a room full of people who like to knit and saying "I hate people who knit". For that matter, it could be any creed, colour or race.

Seems to me, the people who have commented in this demeaning and condescending tone primarily are very young .. So, should I now say that I think ALL young people are condescending and mean? I don't think so...because they are not all created equal...and it couldn't be more apparent.

WTF people! The word HATE is utilized sooo often on this forum .. So if I were to use the same context .. I would have to say ... I really hate it when people use the word hate so easily to describe how they feel about people who don't fall into a certain category.

    Agreed!
  • I feel like all they are doing is making themselves feel better and when they say it about someone doing something like knitting its probably because they themselves can not do it!

The word hate is a very strong word and I really don't think people who use it frequently understand how strong it is.

I've never been much of a wine aficianado.

I'll take a good bourbon any day!

When you find a post that is disturbing to you, you have the right to report the post.
Although everyone is entitled to their opinion, I agree some people can be very nasty.
I had someone tell me I should die for mine. Yes Die! Little harsh wouldn't you say.

  • Yes, it's very passive aggressive behaviour. It's not disturbing THAT it happens as much as it's disturbing how OFTEN it happens on THIS, of all, forums.

Some are very brave behind a computer screen and easily have a bully mentality. Just skip right over them as soon as you realize where they are going in a conversation.

I had a freind put on facebook recently that she was on a plane next to a fat person and she hated it - she should not have to sit next to a fat person..........she did catch a lot of heck over her post and then tried to backtrack and say it wasn't what she meant, she meant that anyone can excercise and eat right. Maybe they are, maybe the person next to her had already lost 40 lbs and is still on their journey, but comments such as hers can really discourage them.

It's not just one single post .. It can be a whole thread with many posts of like thinking...actually there a few threads that have the same mind set .. about people who are fat, people who can't spell, people who can't stay with their program .. you name it.

    Very true

I have been doing that .. But it seems to be popping it's ugly head into a lot of threads...I've only now realized how much of it there is on this forum.

I don't know your friend, but I'm guessing what your friend meant was that she hated sitting next to the fat person. I was on a flight recently from Germany to Toronto. It's an 8 hour flight. The person sitting next to me had to raise the arm rest because she could not fit in the seat with it down. She then took up part of my seat. I don't really care whether or not this woman had already lost 100 pounds (if so, good for her). I hated sitting next to her because it was uncomfortable.

If they hate fat people then why are they on a diet/fitness site? Pot calling the kettle black maybe LMBO...SMH...they were obviously fat and/or out of shape at one time.

I did a report on weight loss surgery which opened my eyes differently to obesity. I am very obese and hate myself, but I do not have that same feeling for others and never have. We are who God made us to be. So many people think it is just this or that to cause weight gain. And so did I. Why??? Because I was given all those negative words for so long. Research showed me otherwise! That is why I am on here today. Because I know I have to fight obesity. No different than the person having to fight smoking, alcoholism, etc. I am a hairstylist. I work 32 to as many as 50+ hours a week. I can do 100+ haircuts in that week. Sounds easy??? It's not horrible. I have gotten used to it. But hmmmm, I wonder how many times a week I raise my arms above my head a day. I should purchase a pedometer and see just how far I walk in a day. (It is quite a bit) And yes, until I did my research report I would have said I had a lazy job too. But after the research I had to do a self evaluation. I had to reprogram my thinking from the negativity of others. I am not lazy. I have lazy moments. But many people do, and if not, maybe they should from time to time. Then they can relax and enjoy tranquility.

Really? Her point exactly. Why do people need to pick apart anything anyone has to say?
I was just telling her "She has a right to report". I am so tired of this site and all it's negativity!
