Seriously, I am beginning to think something is wrong with it. I went over on my calories as far as I know yesterday....I went to the mall and I don't know how much of the 2 hrs I spent walking. But, yesterday the scale said 249....today, 246. And it doesn't weigh my hubby correctly at all. The scale also reads my husband 20lbs lighter then the doctors scale. I don't know if it starts acting up after 300lbs(it is supossed to weigh up to 400lbs) or what, but I'm not sure how reliable it is. Should I buy a new scale or just stick with this one?

You could have dropped 3 pounds over night from all of the walking. Weight is a funny thing. However, with the scale being off 20 pounds for your husband, I think I would buy a new scale that goes up to whatever weight is appropriate so that the two of you will know for sure. Just my opinion.

if you overate and had a lot of sodium thats a possibility of the the flucuation. as far as doctor scales, they suck... when i go to the doc im always 5 pounds heavier, wearing jeans, its getting cold, probably have a sweater on next time i go. if you do buy another scale dont go for digital, it will have you weighing what the doc scales say

My scale weighs differently in different parts of the house. And I also have the same confusion of mine also. I have not been over yet, but I just started on Tuesday and it says I weigh 7.2 less than when I started that day.

You could always take them with you to the Doctors office for a comparison. There's usually a little dial on bathroom scales to callibrate weight...

Maybe time to change the batterie. Mine is not on crack, she is just PMSing all the time. ;)

If it's not going to kill your budget, go get a new scale. They aren't expensive most places :)

I had a scale like that. Husband got P.O.'d at tossed it in the trash and went and bought me a new one. Question. Where do you keep your scale? I always have had mine in the bathroom but was told recently not to keep it there. Something to do with the humidity. Now I have it in the kitchen by the table. Good place for it, LOL! (at least for me)

P.S. I also took the level around the different areas before putting it there. It helps if it is in the most level area you can find.
  • I would maybe by a new one. I use the scale at my work every week that weight our freight packages for FEDEX. I really dont want a scale in my house then i will be obsessed with taking my weight=(
  • I would probably buy a new scale but a few weeks ago I overate one day and lost about 3lbs I think it may be good for you sometimes lol :)

If your scale is in the bathroom then it will give you different readings because of the steam and moisture from the shower. You should try to place it somewhere else in te house, if it still gives you inaccurate readings then replace the scale.

I think mine is on crack today too... I weighed myself yesterday and I was 2 pounds less than Thursday (my official weigh-in day)... and then today I was 2 pounds less than THAT! I didn't get to officially exercise yesterday but I was busy all day and I ate all my calories for the past 2 days but I don't think 4 pounds is right.

But, I know that my weight fluctuates daily and that is why I like to take a reading every day -- so that in the far future (maintenance), I can have a reference point as to how much my weight fluctuates... and I won't go crazy if my weight goes up a pound ... but I'll watch it to make sure it isn't more than fluctuation... (if any of that makes sense!)

As another poster said - if the scale is weighing your husband 20 pounds heavier than the doctor's scale, see if you move it to a more level spot on the floor (my bathroom floor is off kilter and I have to find the EXACT same spot each time I move the scale to sweep) - or buy a new scale... but you may find the same situation if it's just your floor.

If you have some dumbells or something that has a set weight, you could put that on the scale to see if it measures up correctly. That should help you decide how accurate your scale is.

could it be you were really under on your calories a few days ago and it is just now catching up?

I agree w/Mem50. I had invested some $$ in a really nice expensive scale and kept it in the bathroom, within a few weeks it didnt work anymore :( Humidity will ruin the scale. I bought a new one which I now keep mine in my room. Only taking it out once a week or so (since theres only carpeting in my room) and lay it out on the wooden floor to weigh myself. So make sure you are putting it in an area that is level and sturdy.
  • You should reward yourself a new scale simply for this post alone...very funny! Just my opinion...all scales are on crack ;)

It didn't register the 12lb weight or my son who is around 42lbs....I think I am going to get a dial scale and get rid of the digital nightmare! My weight doesn't fluctuate down it fluctuates up lol

I can stop off and on a scale and come up with a ten pound difference...I have never felt confident with scales...they have always done that to me...I guess it depends upon where you put your feet and how heavy you step..i have this problem with digital and the regular kind....I usually just keep weighing till I get it to stay at one weight for a few weights...who knows?????
