If I know I'm in for a salty day, do I drink like 12 glasses of water to flush it? Or will the salt just soak it up?

I tend to almost double my water intake when I know I'll be eating something salty. I would love to hear something scientific on this though.

Sooo.... Sciency people? Whats the call?

    I found this article..... http://www.danlj.org/~danlj/Soaring/Clues/Diuresis.html
it's geared toward pilots, but if you scroll down to the salt section it says that it could take up to 3 days to get rid of excess salt. The body forces us to get rid of the salt, in pee. So if we drink our 8 glasses, and go over our salt, usually 1 or 2 of those glasses is wasted on getting rid of the extra salt. And we're peeing out the salt instead of sweating out the fat. That's the part that got my attention.
