Conditional self-control help, please!

I started MFP at the suggestion of a good friend after the birth of my second son. I lost all but 5 pounds after logging and doing two complete rounds of P90X. I just had third son August 10 and have started to log, but for some reason, my self-control is not what it was after baby number two.

If I am food shopping for myself, I have incredible self-control and have no problem sticking to my goals. I'm on maternity leave until the end of October and fear that I won't be able to lose a pound more because our house is full of crappy and tempting foods that I can't resist. I'll walk to the pantry or refridgerator telling myself, "You don't need this." or I look at my stomach and legs and say, "This is definately going to slow your progress!"

Despite this self-talk, I can't control it lately.

How do YOU live in a house with tempting food? Any mind games? Any really good substitutes? Any rituals? Anthing else that helps to get you through the day?

  • I know what you mean. My house is often filled with delicious looking debbie cakes, cookies, puddings, and candy bars because of my family's sweet tooth  I decided that I wouldn't FORBID myself to eat any of these "tempting" foods, but to do everything in MODERATION. I will eat a debbie cake maybe once a week, or have a mini candy bar. the key is COUNTING the calories.

also, a good thing to do is find healthier alternatives. my life saver has been the 90 calorie Fiber One brownies. They help my chocolate craving, and they are GOOD for me!
  • Ditto! I think of the calories and how long I have to work out to get rid of them. Not sure if it would work for you but It seems to help me out.

    Hey Lisa :)

You know I've had all kinds of self-control issues, with my B.E.D. and I've learned a lot of things that have helped me through it. Of course keeping thejunk out of the house is vital, but if your family isn't on board, that's not always an option.

I keep a dry erase board on my fridge and number the days of a consecutive clean streak instead of dates, then also note calories/vitamins/weight daily. It helps if I'm on day 18 clean and feel like eating junk, I'll see the board and realize that it'll take me 18 more days to get back there.

I also have beenn following leangains.com feeding window. If its before 2pm or after 10pm, I don't eat. Period. It helps a lot.

Cutting sugar out of my life has been a huuuuuuuge help. The longer I go without it, the less I ever crave it.

Also, I have a few accountabilibuddies who text me in moments of weakness, and I do the same. Its enough to stop most bad choices while they're still developing.

    Hope this helps a bit!

    Steve
