Hey guys can anyone help me with a answer to this, i don't want to be seen as overstating my cals burnt. So the two logs i use for swimming is 1. (Swimming laps, freestyle, fast, vigorous effort) 2.(Swimming laps, freestyle, light/moderate effort). Now i am still far from fit but when i swim i have 2 speeds my fast when i pushing myself very hard and then other swimming as much as i can lower the heart rate a little. Then i swim a laps and like the other good swimmers in the pool who are fit they rest so many sec be for the next swim. so i swim then have 10 to 20 sec rest to get my breath then take off again so do you think by me putting 60 min down i am overstating ??? i would love feed back if anyone want to give advice :)

I would suggest a HRM. I have the Polar FT4 and I love it. It's easy and simple to use. Like most HRM it can be used in the pool.

    This is just my suggestion:

    1. Get a waterproof heart rate monitor. That will be the most accuate and SOO worth the investment.

    2. I personally have noticed that MFP's numbers are only "estimtes". I have heard that the swimming tends to be overexgrated if using just their numbers. I would probably say you swam 50 mins, even if it was 60 just ot make up for the "fluff" and difference in acutal cals burned.

If you don't eat back your exercise cals, it probably won't make a big difference(or if you only eat back a small portion of them). I just prefer to know what Im burning as opposed to hoping thats what Im burning.

    Best of luck..sorry I wasn't much help!

I also have an Polar FT4 as does my hubby...we both like them and they are very reasonable priced. We got ours from Amazon.

So the FT4 is safe in the pool, watch and strap?

Always wondered, but didn't want to risk it!

Thanks Bethdris i try not to eat back any of my cals and i wil check out the ft4 thanks
  • I don't think you are overstating anything. If you are in the pool working hard 95% of the hour, i think that is fine. Also, You rest doing anything. For example, when you ride bikes you go on a hour ride but you dont peddle down hills or when you work out you move from machine to machine so you arent working out the whole hour, Understand what i am saying?

yea your actually suppose to wet the strap before you use it anyway. They just say don't press the buttons on the watch while your in the pool.
