Hi All! I am new to this program. I am 40 years old and a proud Army Mom. I am beginning my journey today, 9/19/2011. I have 60 pounds to lose. I have lost before and was down to a slim size 8 and looked great. However, I didn't feel great, I always felt like I was depriving myself and I was depressed about it. I need help staying focused but also feeling good about the life change!

You absolutely can lose the weight again. My story (at least the basics) is not much different. I lost 50 pounds in 2005. Gained them all back plus about 7 over the next few years. I turned 40 earlier this year and, so far, have lost 54 pounds (about 20 more to go).
The difference for this this time around is my mindset. Its no longer simply about losing weight. Its about being fit and healthy. Its about avoiding, or minimizing health risks. Its about feeling happy about myself. Its about spending quality time with my wife and kids (instead of being a couch potato). Its about a lifestyle and not a diet. its about winning.
This time around, I've done a lot more reading about health, fitness and nutrition. I understand what went wrong in 2005 (and afterwards). In 2005, I just wanted to do something to lose weight. I understand how important the mental aspect of this journey is. My mindset is much stronger. I'm now a lot smarter about health, fitness and nutrition. I know what works and I know when I do things that don't.
You need to find a way of eating that keeps you satiated throughout the day so you don't feel like you're starving yourself or depriving yourself of things. While we are all a little different, what works for most folks along these lines is: (a) eating foods that take longer to digest...that keep you fuller longer...and that would be lean protein, healthy dietary fat, and carbs that have a low glycemic index value; (b) drinking lots of water throughout the day; and (c) avoiding or significantly limiting processed sugars, breads and grains.0
