Hi All! I am new to this program. I am 40 years old and a proud Army Mom. I am beginning my journey today, 9/19/2011. I have 60 pounds to lose. I have lost before and was down to a slim size 8 and looked great. However, I didn't feel great, I always felt like I was depriving myself and I was depressed about it. Needless to say, I gained it all back and about 15 pounds on top of that. I need help staying focused but also feeling good about the life change!

THats why DIETS don't work long term. What works long term is changing your life. Change how you feel about food. Want that cinnamon roll? Eat it. Moderation and how often you do it is the key.

You can't deprive yourself of the foods you love long term. It just doesn't work. You have to just control portions and control frequency.

You can make this change! Healthy choices are addicting, once you get on track, you will WANT to make healthy choices, and they will come naturally.

    Good for you!
I was in the same boat...losing and gaining for years
But nothing has worked as well as simply tracking my calorie intake on MFP and doing regular exercise
    Stick with this, it's great

Yes you can lose it again! I started in Jan.of this year and lost 20 lbs. by mid June. I just turned 40 a few weeks ago. There are a few ways to go about this. Most tend to become instantly really strict when you start a diet and expect to see results instantly. That is what tends to lead to the feeling of deprivation and inevitably the regain of weight. Instead of focusing on the pounds you need to lose try to focus on something else, like increasing your vegetable/fruit consumption, trading most drinks for water, getting stronger through exercise or even sign up for a race of some kind (doesn't have to be running). Make little changes to your everyday life that you feel good about. Also make sure that you do indulge in your favorites every now and then, just make sure it fits into your caloric needs for the day. I didn't really give up anything I like to eat I did make sure to eat less of it and to stop eating when I was full instead of continuing to eat because it tastes good! I did add more veggies and fruit and started drinking lots more water. I exercise 4-5 days a week doing cardio and weight lifting (a must in my book).

I am sending you a friend request. I am more than happy to help you stay motivated if you need it or just be a friend on your journey. Good Luck to you!

    Holly
