Hi:
I'm a vegetarian debating becoming totally vegan, and was wondering if anyone else was in the same situation?
I don't eat meat at all..no fish either, mostly because I just don't agree with eating animals. I am not sure if I am as morally opposed to dairy, as the animals aren't killed. However, they are still treated in a horrifying manner. Anyway, anyone have any yummy vegan things they enjoy?? Some that I've been enjoying are:
* Smart Dogs--i think the taste & consistency is great!
* soy milk--so yummy w/everything, especially oatmeal
* soy veggie cheese
* Smart Wings--spicy & delicious

I love almond breeze original, it's great. I also use vinegar and olive oil on my salads mostly. Veggie cheese is also good I have been enjoying that a lot. Whole foods website has some great vegan recipes!0

If it is the manner of how the animals are treated that bothers you, you could always check out local farms and see if they have any options to buy from them directly and you could also ask to see the animals to ensure they are properly cared for. Just an option to throw out there. Not all of the animals are treated poorly.0

I find a lot of really great recipes in health books such as Superfoods and the book Eat To Live. Check out the website www.sunfoods.com for some neat appliances such as dehydrators, blenders and neat chopping/noodle making devices. They also carry some interesting nutritional items, foods, snacks and treats (I love their cold pressed herbed olives) and have great recipes (http://www.sunfood.com/pages/recipes). I also make sure that my Almond/Soy/Rice milks are all fortified with B12 etc. Also, some foods such a Quinoa, and hemp hearts are considered complete proteins. And I always like to stalk up on frozen Edemame in the shell (for snacking) and out of the shell (to add to salads, soups and cassaroles). Some of it is a little pricey but if you shop around you can find reasonable deals. Plus, I see it as a major investment in my health! Cheers to that and cheers to your healthy choices!0

Hello, and I'm so happy that you are considering vegan eating! It's awesome.
I am such a lazy vegan. All I know how to cook is whole grains. I make a pot of brown rice or barley on the weekend, and then add things to a bowl with the grain like beans (canned, drained and rinsed) and tomatoes (canned, too) plus some olive oil. YUM, and super easy.
Peanut butter rules for vegans, too. I eat a tablespoon or two a day.
Good luck, and if you need another vegan friend, feel free to add me. :flowerforyou:
I also have a blog that has some simple vegan recipes, but is mostly about being a vegan Weight Watcher-
kindlifeofleah.blogspot.comI am not sure if I am as morally opposed to dairy, as the animals aren't killed. However, they are still treated in a horrifying manner.
Just so you know- The dairy industry produces veal and the dairy cows are slaughtered once they are dried up. :sad:
(of course, I'm talking about factory farms here)0 -
if you like visual inspiration, try going to tastespotting.com and typing 'vegan' into the search field.

I made a really easy, yummy vegan chili the other day
1 can beans, rinsed and drained (I used pintos)
1 can corn, drained
1 can diced tomatoes
1 16 oz jar salsa
Combine all in a pan and heat through.
www.happyherbivore.com has a good database of recipes, so far i've tried the black bean brownies and I really like them! They have a great fudgey texture and are so much more satisfying then regular brownies. And if you like Smart Dogs I think you will love Lightlife's Smart Sausages. : )0
