Guys,

Am a little fed up that after spending time adding some strength exersises onto my diary today there was no negative calorie value! Am i doing something wrong or are there no calories used in weight training? :-)

If it has no benefit to my daily intake why bother recording it???

Try looking under the cardio section for strength training exercises. The actually strength training section doesn't include values for calories burned. I suspect that's because it's a little complex to calculate those calories as there are many variables that would need to be recorded.
  • Agree totally with you, I spent an hour doing upper body and core, came out soaking wet so it must have some 'cardio' benefit and can't even record it - even as an avarage.

Saying that I can understand the problem, I've been to a number of gyms over the years and even verious exercises and equipment have different names, for example, fit ball and swiss ball are exactly the same thing :frown: , and free weights are the same.

Perhaps a little rework is needed on this section with pictures and discription and very basic average in terms of rep/wieght/time. - Just an idea for the people who run the site.

I think the reason there is no calorie value, is because it would be hard to track the intensity that each individual works out at.
  • Yeah I think it is difficult to quantify, I have found calculations that work out the energy of moving 1kg 1m in joules but am sure the amount of calories used depends on age and weight of whoever does the moving!
  • agree with that! I cant seem to find the right exercise that I had been doing, we all call them different things I spose...
So I have taken to a bit of cheating, I found a callisthenics tag and guess that 10-20 min vigorous will cover an hour of free weights or machines.

Under cardio there is a "strength training" category, which is what I use when I take a Body Pump class. I believe there are also a few for calisthenics, push-ups and sit-ups. I actually don't understand the point of the strength category at all - unless it's just to log your progress over time?
