Dukkaners/Low Carb-ers: What did you lose in the first week

Hi all
I've decided to bite the bullet and am on day 2 of the Dukan diet.
I'm just interested to find out what people lost during their attack phase, and how they found the experience. I've had a few headaches and am a bit tired today, although drinking LOADS of water.

Sounds like you have 'carb flu'. It'll pass, your body's a wonderful thing and will adapt to pretty much anything. I never got the headaches or anything but I did have real lethargy, and it lasted weeks. Not so much tiredness, but I felt like I weighed 20st and just walking was a chore (and I'm used to decent exercise). It passed too - I still can't 'quite' do what I used to, but that's no biggie for me as I've always hated exercise anyway. When I say I can't do what I could, I could comfortably do an hour on the treadmill and up my resistance, whereas now I'm done sooner and can't quite do the same gradient/resistance.
First week you lose a few lbs, but some of that's water. it's still a great incentive though. The Attack phase can be boring and now I'm in consolidation (despite the odd cheat of nuts/cheese) I now dread the one-day protein only (mine's today) as it's so dull - funny how I was indifferent to veg 'til I did Dukan! I now really appreciate it - I guess because I don't have my beloved fruit as much now.
I found it easy - pre-packed cooked meat are my lifesaver, and for once I can appreciate not 'needing' to eat more (ie with caarbs, I can eat, and eat, and eat): you only want/need so much chicken! And I use that rational most of the time now when I think I'm hungry...do I want some prawns? No? Then I'm not hungry...
Hang in there, it'll get easier, and will feel worthwhile when you get results (also being olow carb you 'look' slimmer as you're carrying less water - every Monday/Tuesday I'm more 'full' around the tummy as I've eaten too many carbs on the Sunday, but it goes down again).0 -
Thanks for the post glypta!
Yeah - I've been doing some research online and does sound a bit carb flu-ey. Just a bit of a dull head really, nothing too tiresome that I can't put up with! Know what you mean about veggies, I'm looking forward to the day I can have some veg! How long did you do the attack phase for?
Lethargy wise I'm more tired today than yesterday - although I've had a bout 3l of water thus far today so hoping to flush a lot of crap out of my system haha. Very true about the chicken, there is only so much you want/can eat! I'm trying to season it and make it nice haha... that and smoked salmon are keeping me going!

I'm doing Atkins and lost about 7lbs on the 2 week Induction :-))
I had carb-flu for a day or so but it soon passed and I feel great now!!
Good luck x0 -
Think the book advises 2-10 days? I, being me, did the full 10! if I remember right. It's so easy though, and I got used to having Fage 0% Greek yoghurt with my oatbran as 'pudding'. I now have a protein shake 'pancake', which is low-carb protein powder, an egg white, oat bran and water in the frying pan. It's nice, and almost feels like carbs
I think in fairness the yoghurt's more filling though.
I love salmon too - smoked, sure, but just steamed/grilled. Yum. And mackerel, though I did try to eat that on days I'd done more exercise, just because of the calories - technically according to Dukan that shouldn't matter, but I felt better about it.0 -
In Phase 1-Attack, I did it for 6 days and lost 4 lbs.0

I lost 6lbs in the first week of Atkins. Obviously most of it was water, but after that I seemed to lose around 7 lbs every two weeks, without counting calories. I did stall after losing 30lbs, however. Then again, eating was just eating (I didn't feel as if I was dieting) and I maintained that new weight for over a year.
I've tried eating more traditionally in the last three months (low fat/higher carb) and lost 10lbs in all that time, despite counting calories and exercising HARD. I'm now back on Atkins AND doing the exercise, and again, last week (my first of the new round) I lost 6lbs. I also much prefer eating low carb - I rarely feel hungry, have no issues with energy and it just suits me. I only went back to low fat/ higher carb because I missed cereal in the morning, and fresh, crusty bread! It was a nice break but my body just seems to absorb carbs like a sponge.....
I too had the carb flu first time round - it reminded me very much of giving up smoking. Carbs were all I could think about for 3 or 4 days but after that the cravings went down and after a week or so I felt fine. Funnily enough, this time, I had carb cravings for the first few days, but no headaches, tiredness, runny nose etc, like I did last time.0 -
I did attack for 7 days - lost 3lbs
then did a pp day as wanted to b able to eat veggies today - lost further 1lb
first pv day today and have really bloated out so wondering what scales will say in morning.
surprisingly not missed my veggies yet - and am normally pretty big lover of them,
do have great difficulty drinking my fluids - body just not accustomed to it - prob up to around 1litre a day now - with many many trips to the loo - in fact have brought laptop upstairs and come to bed as its nearer the loo....... ;-)
had dreadful headaches days 2-4 - ok now0 -
Hi thx for replies! Today is day 4 for me and STILL got a headache despite drinking 3l water per day as well as coffee and herbal tea....!
Hope it doesn't continue! No idea what I started as as I have no scales... I may ask my flatmate if I can use hers... We shall see! I definitely feel less bloated though which is good!
Am getting a bit bored of chicken so any pp recipes would be greatly received!

P.s feel free to friend me0 -
You should try and jump on a scale, that is the best motivator, especially in Phase 1. Losing nearly a lb a day is super fun!
And in Phase 2, you can expect to lose around 2lbs/wk, but I generally started out at a 3-4lbs loss during cruise.
Good luck! Let me know how you're doing!
Go Dukan!!
Du-Can do it! Haha0 -
Haha thanks - yeah I'll try and catch my housemate, or find somewhere I can use a scale (I'll buy one when payday makes it way round!).
I never normally weigh myself and am generally stubborn, so I'm not too concerned - I can tell by the fit of my clothes that I'm definitely losing. As for how quickly, that remains to be seen after 10 days. It will definitely be nice to reward myself with some veggies though, I just have to remember to not go too crazy!0
