My husband smoked a pack a day and then one day just up and bought the E-cig. He has been smoke free for over 2 months now and said it's the best thing he ever did! I say go for it! Can't hurt to try!0
-
Smoke 'em if you got 'em.
(sorry, that wasn't the answer to your question, but I'm a smoker, too.......have not tried the electronic cigs, and probably won't.)0 -
They work if you WANT to quit smoking. If you do not want to quit, and are only doing it for reasons to please others you will fail.
I am an ex smoker. So is my wife.0 -
I bought one and it gave me a 3 day long migraine. I think its more based on the person. I had friends that loved it and hated it.0
-
I used one a few times when I was smoking and found them to be AWESOME.
Do your research, though, and buy a really good one (expensive). They break really easily and they are expensive to use.
But I found them to be way better than cigs.
Thankfully I will have a year smoke free October 1st so I don't have to worry about nicotine any more0 -
I'm sorry to be disagreeing with you all - but electronic cigs did NOTHING for me. They still have nicotine, so you're still a smoker. They're 'healthier' but it's like finding a healthy form of heroin?!
With all the humility in the world, can I recommend "Allan Carr's easyway to stop smoking". I tried it and it worked. It is really good. And much more effective than e-cigs .
P - I bought e-lites. Excellent delivery etc. But didn't get me off cigarettes.0 -

This. This is what finally enabled me to become free of any form of nicotine. It will be two years on October 30th. It's worth a shot.0 -

It's amazing isn't it Sue way to go you!!! I hope I reach 2 years without a hitch. So far so good0 -

It WAS amazing! After many failed attempts and feeling like I had the "creepy-crawlies" when I would try to quit, that book helped make it so painless. Best thing I did.
You'll definitely make it two years...and more0 -
okay so none of you mentioned that these electronic ciggarettes are just as bad as real ciggarettes and that they are trying to be banned? i have a friend that continuously tells me how horrible they are for you-i tried telling her that they dont have to contain nicotine.
i really dont understand because shes on chantex and im doing this alone with nothing, we smoke about the same amounts too.
thats really why i left this post. shes so convinced that they are the worst thing and you might as well buy ciggarettes...it confuses me because she REALLY wants to quit. The electronic cigarettes appears to be something that helps with your state of mind. If the action of smoking is not what your addicted too then it wont work. The only thing i worry about is that i use cigarettes to help my anxiety attacks and stress (like everyone) that may be just part of the "letting go process"
the majority of you said go for it so i just might0 -
Check out http:nwvapors.com Myself and 4 friends really like this one.
We all have the one called ego-T starter kit0 -
I quit cold turkey last December, 2 weeks before we left on a cruise. It was my 4th time and last time. I am now fighting to lose the weight but it is soooo worth it. I smoked for about 25 years. Quit for 2 years, quit for 8 months and for 6 months.
I finally have a supportive man that is proud that I care enough to quit and continue to work on losing the weight. My exhusband got on me for gaining after he got on me to quit smoking. Nice catch22 the jerk!!!0 -
I'm trying to quit - i considered the e-smokes however i decided to wean myself off slowly. I started out smoking about 15 cigs a day (nearly a pack a day >.<) and i'm down to 3 cigs a day now. it's rough sometimes and other times i feel ok going without them. october 15th i go down to 2 cigs a day. my fiance is absolutely instrumental in this because he helps motivate me to keep it up.
haha we started out him giving me the cigs i would have for the day and hiding the rest - it really worked and now i can actually control myself and not smoke constantly.0 -
Blucigs suck. Not satisfying at all.
I recommend a Joye 510 or the previously mentioned eGo. Both are great models and deliver with good performance and a reasonable price. Check out ecigsupply.com for good deals on both. You can order the nicotine liquid on varying strengths - high, medium, low, or none, so you can wean yourself off nicotine if you wish.
The ecig does deliver nicotine if you get that kind of liquid. However, most people are trying to quit smoking due to the negative health effects of the tobacco burning, not nicotine. In fact, nicotine is relatively safe for most people. If you have cardiovascular problems or any circulation issues, you should avoid nicotine altogether. The ecig delivers nicotine without the harmful effects of tobacco smoke.
I quit smoking tobacco using an ecig, and I love mine. I still use it regularly 2 years later, although I've lowered the nicotine level since then. My breathing is vastly improved, and I've saved a lot of money (the ecig is much cheaper).
Good luck!0 -
I have no experience with E-Cig's,, I dropped mine cold turkey last year but not everyone can do that, Dont get me wrong I still have cravings like MAD sometimes (My husband still smokes) the thing is to not give in to them but you have to WANT to quit! I here that E-Cigs still have Nicotine its just a lower amount then a Cig but the habit isnt just the Nicotine its the addiction to having something between your fingers! I found that when I want one if I put a pen or pencil or even a crayon there and hold it and just drink me some water or something then I can get past my craving and go on about my day. I dont do this so much anymore I have got to where I tell myself "Its been over a year,, that would be plain stupid to pick them back up now!" Hope you find your way to a Non-Smoking you!!!0

Just my experience...
The e-cig I tried a few years ago was about $70. I justified it by comparing it to the cost of a carton. I didn't like it.
It tasted weird, and the vapor dripped from the e-cig onto my lip. The latest I heard about e-cigs, some people were claiming inhaling the moist vapor was causing pneumonia. I don't know the accuracy of that though. But my e-cig didn't help me quit.
I also, at one time, tried Chantix. I'm sure everyone has heard the negatives of that by now. But personally, the only negatives (and the reason I stopped) was because it made me nauseous. I hate feeling like I'm going to puke. But that was just me. I actually enjoyed the vivid dreams, and didn't feel depressed. But it also didn't help me quit either.
If you want to try it, try it. And if you want to quit, keep trying (whatever you think will help) until you're successful0 -
This book helped me quit! Great GREAT Book! January 17th was my last smoke..strongly recommend!0

I only see electronic cigarettes in malls, in little stands, with employees smoking them for advertisement purposes, and my reaction to them is, "man, that's ridiculous, what are they gonna think of next?" I totally feel you on having to smoke at least a cigarette a day. I smoked for 5 years and hated it a lot of the time. I understand trying to quit and that feeling that comes with it. To me it was a feeling that things are just not right, I felt uneasy, I wanted to get back to where I belonged, and had a craving for that same **** that I knew was bad for me but for some reason gave me an escape and provided me with what seemed like a mini vacation during my day. I could smoke and everything would be okay. The only way I finally quit after many attempts was volunteering to go to a Christian/Catholic work/style ranch to live on in the middle of nowhere (no TV, Cell phone, internet, phone calls, newspaper, magazines, NO CONNECTION with the outside world.) I was completely separated from society for 2 full weeks. We worked pretty much all day, it was pretty intense and I'm telling you the truth when I say this, after only 2 days of being there, I didn't even want to smoke a cigarette, I had no cravings. I learned that smoking is completely unnecessary. It really IS your enemy. Your brain will lie to you. Try to quit now before it's too late and you end up smoking till you're 45 years old or worse.0

Just get pregnant like I did 6 years ago!!! I Quit right away.
Okay probably not helpful at all!!
You have to really want to quit, I tried quitting before my pregnancy but couldn't do it. I found out I was preg with my son And i quit thaT day. I really wanted to quit for my babies health I am a stats person so if I look up the bad somethings that, smoking for example, can do to my body it will make me want to quit more. It will be hard but you can do this!! Good luck to you!!!:flowerforyou:0 -
I smoke, as i subscribe to the "One thing at a time" ethos.
At the moment, I'd rather be a 13st smoker than a 22st non smoker.
I'm waiting for my brain to click about smoking the same was it has about eating. No point in even trying unless this happens for me.0 -
I quit last year using chantix.
The thing I would rec. to you is to stop and think about y you think you want to smoke ect. If you are only smoking 1 time a day or every other day, then you really don't even have a nicotine addiction. You have an EMOTIONAL addiction. I urge you to evaluate the situation and see why you are turning to them and what things are pushing you that way. YOU CAN DO IT!!! Be like Nike and JUST DO IT!!
Good Luck0 -
I can't speak from personal experience, but what I've observed is this: I have 2 friends who both got e-cigs to help them kick the smoking habit. It worked beautifully for him and he's been smoke free since. He eventually weaned himself off the e-cig too. She, on the other hand, was still sneaking real cigarettes while using the e-cig. She never was able to quit. So, I guess that means it does depend on the person. That's my two cents.0
-
I smoked since I was 13 (28 years) I quit using the easy way to quit smoking book had to read it twice - but I quite and haven't had a cig in 5 years0
-
I quit cold turkey (not the first time BUT it's been long enough this time that I actually can't recall the last time I smoked. It was some time this Spring but...that's all I got) so I can't speak on the electronic cigs BUT I agree with Mcdonl that no matter what method you choose to employ, none will be successful unless you are truly ready to quit. Sure, no one "should" smoke, but let's get real and admit that if you are only quitting because you feel you SHOULD (hate that damn evil word--try to avoid using it on myself) that you will fail. Once you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you WANT to and commit to it, then the method is sorta secondary...this is all my opinion, of course!0
-
I quit smoking about a month ago. I have been smoking since I was 13 yrs old. I quit cold turkey. I was stressed out and really wanted a cigarette so I got an E cig. I still use it. It keeps me sane. Its no where near as bad as cigarettes. Yes, some of them contain nicotine but they don't contain the 10,000 other chemicals that cigarettes do. My BF quit as well he started with Chantix and it did nothing for him so he just quit on his own. He'll use the E cig once in awhile as well. DO NOT go out and buy the expensive ones. I got mine from a smoke shop for 20 bucks. I say go for it. Anything but cigarettes.0

Hi all, my second post on this topic and I'd like to say a few things as an ex-smoker and now happy non-smoker (for what it's worth):
1. Don't focus on the bad things cigs do for you (real or e) because you already know that and if cancer and other scary **** made any sense to a smoker noone would ever do it. By the way, e-cigs have nicotine in them so they're still not 'good' for you
2. I used to smoke 40 cigarettes a day at one point! I tried to quit a few times. No success. I thought I was weak willed - wrong! I was just thinking about all the stereotypes and getting scared...
Myth 1 - stopping smoking is hard WRONG. It' s easier than dieting and that's extremely relevant since we're all on MFP
Myth 2 - it's a habit and not an addiction. WRONG. It's nicotine that causes the issue. Every cigarette builds the need for your next one. If you stop yourself from having one, you will need the next one less. You are a nicotine addict. Harsh? True and Tough!
Myth 3 - you will put on weight because it's about keeping your hands busy so you eat. WRONG. If you do it the right way, you will not substitute food.
I know you're all thinking 'BS if it was so easy, I'd stop'... well then go read Allan Carr's easyway to stop smoking - I SWEAR you won't regret it. You have nothing to lose. If you keep smoking, nothing will have changed. But if it gets you to stop - you win .
I'm happy to help anyone that wants it.. I speak passionately because I've seen how I changed after I stopped. And it's only been 2 months!! Imagine how good it'll be after a few years..0 -

Myth 1 - You can't say its not hard, period. Sure, it may not have been for you, but we are all different. Losing this weight has been a breeze compared to what quitting smoking would be for me.
Myth 2 - Agree.
Myth 3 - Again, it may be wrong for you, in your experience. But it'd be true for me. One thing at a time for me. I'd rather be a 13st smoker than a 20st non smoker at the moment. When im at my goal weight and my brain clicks for ciggies the way it has for food, then ill try to stop.0 -

You probably won't believe me but 2 months back I would have said EXACTLY what you said above. You're right. It's hard, but with that book it seems much easier. And again, you will NOT be a 22st non smoker. You'll be a 13st non smoker with a much healthier body, on it's way to be a much lower weight!! But it all depends on whether you're willing to give it a try. Just read through this link once, and then decide... of course I don't know you so please don't think I'm badgering you. I'm just excited to share what I believe works. You are more than welcome to disbelieve me

I don't think you're badgering me! I'm the same as you when people say it's hard to lose weight! For me, it's barely been any effort at all! Hardly any diet changes, doing exercises i do as i enjoy them rather than just to burn calories!
But, again, i know myself. I know my personality. Something has clicked in my head about food and calories. It's hard to explain. For example, before id work out, and then get a kfc on the way home, and eat it there. Then id go home, and a couple of hours later have my actual dinner! Now, i think "hmm, kfc, that'd be nice, but it'd mean no dinner at home later...nah, not worth it". The thought of having BOTH doesnt even enter my mind now!
I'm waiting for that click to happen with smoking too, and when that happens, sure, it may come easily to me...i bloody hope so! But, for now, i'm a realist, and there's no way I'd be able to quit right now, so I'm not even going to try, as it'd only crush me when it failed.
One thing at a time!0
