Ok. I weigh 197 lbs. I have working out since last June, 5 days per week, but no food modifications. Didn't lose any weight. I joined MFP and since late December I have changed my workout and food to this: I am lifting weights with my trainer 3 days a week, cardio for 40-60 mi. the other 2 days, and Saturday 90 minutes of pretty vigorous yoga. I have been doing this for three weeks. I am eating all my exercise calories, staying away from sweets, and eating more but smaller, low-fat meals. Give me some hope, here: when will I see my svelte and cat-like me emerge?

This is strange.......I was about to log on and ask the same question. I have been living on 1400 calories a day with 30 minutes of cardio each day. In 10 days I have only dropped 2lbs. Oh and by the way, I can't remember what a Coca-Cola taste like......it's been water only. I'm with you???????????

First, you WILL reach your goal, hang in there! I know how frustrating it feels, and how easy it is to throw your hands up and give up. But really, HANG IN THERE!

Second, it may take longer than you would like for permanent, real weight loss. That can be frustrating to, because you are so committed and working so hard you just want to see results already! But depending on how much weight you want to lose, you need to give it time. Permanent weight loss takes time, as it should. You didn't put pounds on overnight I expect, it took time! You may not want to hear that, but it should take about a year to get to where you want to be. Think of it as a year well spent, and that you will never go back to that place again.

Finally, if you aren't seeing movement on the scale, then don't use it for a while. Measuring is better for most people, since muscle weighs more than fat. Remember, weight is just a number, it does not define who you are.

Hope that was encouraging, and keep on truckin', I promise it will pay off!

This may sound strange...but maybe you are just putting on a bunch of muscle? When I work out vigorously I tend to stay the same weight or gain a little (while my pants become looser and I look and feel better). maybe ease up off the weights a smidge (or more reps of lower weights)? Sometimes it just takes a while for everything to kick in! Good luck!:drinker:
  • Thanks. I don't weigh myself, but do notice a significant change in the way I feel, the way my clothes fit, etc. I am just impatient and want my stomach to flatten by the time I am finished with my workout!
AHHHHH! A year you say? Ok! That's do-able.

:drinker: :drinker: :drinker: exercise - water - calories :frown: :frown: Its frustrating but true. Long time weight loss takes time and control. wish I could find that control and do what I need to do. But I always come up with and excuse for not exercising.
  sounds like your doing all the right stuff. It will happen for you if you keep it up.:drinker:

I actually agree with Ali, you know what they say that muscle weighs heavier than fat. With such a regime that you are on, I'll think you are staying heavy with muscles. Have your clothes felt any different?
